    Door Slamming Strips

Hi Tony Thanks for your reply, I guess it depends on how close the slamming strips are nailed onto the door jamb in relation to the door stile, ie the vertical slamming strip on the hinge side could be nailed on so it was touching the door stile before painting, and I have seen some of...

    Door Slamming Strips

Hi guys I've got an internal door frame which is the type without a rabbet joint, in other words the slamming strips will be nailed to the frame, does anyone have any idea how much clearance should be allowed between these strips and the door stiles and top rail to allow for painting...

To skim or not to skim that is the question

Thanks for your replies guys, I haven't decided if I'm going to tile floor to ceiling yet or just part way. Am I right in assuming it would be best to get the skim done first, so it does not go all over newly fixed tiles, if tiling only part way up the wall.

    Shower Mixer Bar Fitting

Hi Can anyone offer some advice on fitting a shower mixer bar, I have put a 19mm thick plywood pad between the studwork to fix the mixer to, or so I thought but the amount of thread protruding is only 20mm as shown on the attached pictures, obviously I don’t just want to dangle the mixer on...

    Radiator Connections

Hi Guys Thanks for your replies, I contacted Drayton Valves and this was their reply which maybe useful to anyone else reading this post. Dear Sir, The TRV4 does not have a shut off position. The valve will be closed in the frost position, however if the temp drops below 7 degrees the...

    Radiator Connections

RADIATOR TOP & SIDE PANEL FITTING

That’s good enough for me Namsag, I’ll get some rads from Wickes theirs are about the best priced ones I’ve seen on the net for Quinn Barlo ones. My only regret is they only do 600 and few 400mm high ones. The 600s are ok for down stairs but I need 500mm for ustairs as the window boards are...

Boiler Size and TRV Info Required

Thanks for your answer bengasman As I said, I will fit the rads and pipework myself and then shop around for quotes to supply and fit the boiler by someone who is gas safe registered. I’m not really bothered how the price is calculated either by putting the extra on the labour or on the...

Boiler Size and TRV Info Required

Thanks for your reply BingoBongo Yes I have fitted them before and if there is anything wrong naturally I would not be expecting the gas fitter to accept responsibility at the end of the day I guess its not much different to having a boiler upgrade to an existing system, I would only expect...

Boiler Size and TRV Info Required

Hi Hailsham Thanks for the info on boiler sizing and explaining about the wax sensor v liquid ones, I was thinking about getting the Drayton valves, they look neat compared with some of the others which are available. If you read my reply to bengasman, I may not have to worry about boiler...

Boiler Size and TRV Info Required

Hi bengasman I take your point about me supplying the boiler, that’s why I haven’t rushed out to buy one yet, I hasten to say it would not be from the market if I did, in fact I was expecting to pay about £900 just to buy it. Daft question I suppose but who do all the places sell their...
