    BATTERY CHARGER PROBS

The needle has probably jammed because it shot up so quick. You can test the charger with a multi meter, it should produce about 14 volts. You could also connect a bulb to it. This would tell you if it was producing a voltage but not if it was producing enough to charge a battery. I had one that...

    Greasing Road wheel bolts.

Normal grease works just as well as copper grease on wheel nuts/bolts and doesn't cost half as much. Alternatively rub them with a pencil. The trouble with the torque setting is the extra lubrication of the grease reduces the friction so the torque is affected, but by how much I don't know.

They don't appear to stock them. Funny that

    Headlamp covers

Can anyone tell me where I can get a set of Headlamp covers for a 2005 Laguna? Most I've looked at don't fit the later style headlights. I'm also looking for a stone chip guard for the bonnet. Cheers :)

    Greasing Road wheel bolts.

Use molly or graphite grease. Copper and steel don't go together very well and if you add a bit of road salt and water together with the electric current running around all our vehicles, you get electrolysis or super corrosion. Copper slip is ok for a while but graphite doesn't react and lasts...

Whats the best way to secure wood posts on a brick wall?

Hi there Mike What you say is a good idea and I've considered a similar project recently. The one thing I would advise is that you don't use rebar because it will corrode and eventually split the posts and stain your wall. I would be tempted to fit a thick wall plate and then attach the posts...

    removing silicone sealant

I've got a special tool for removing silicone but to be honest a small craft knife with a flexible blade is as good as anything I've tried. The special tool won't get into the corners so I need the knife for that. A stanley blade just isn't long or flexible enough. Screwfix has three different...

    ford escort 1.6i heaters

I apoligise in advance for the unhelpfulness of my reply but I've got a similar post in the Repairs and Maintainance section for a Renault Megane and I'm not having much success with it. I've tried cleaning, flushing, bleeding, draining and refilling, flushing again pressurising and bleeding...

    HEAD GASKET...STRETCH BOLTS...PEUGEOT 405 TD

If you're having the head skimmed you may need a slightly thicker gasket depending on how much they have to skim off it.

    Megane Heat Exchanger

Thanks Jonny I've checked the flap and it's fine. The weird thing is if I tap the heat exchanger unit while the engine's running it seems to warm up a little. I thought at first it was sludge or an air lock but I'm not convinced because when the engine's off and it cools it reverts back ...

    Megane Heat Exchanger

Thanks for the reply Al I already have a Haynes and I'm still not sure if this is worth doing because I don't know if it'll solve the problem. I won't know if the matrix is blocked even if I remove it and that means having to buy a replacement and fitting it just to see if it works and it seems...

    Megane Heat Exchanger

RENAULT MEGANE 1.4e I've had this car for a couple of months now and have tried everything I can think of to get the heater to blow hot air. It gets warm with the fan off but as soon as I switch the fan on the air cools to luke warm or cold. I've tried flushing and bleeding but to no avail...

Peugeot 306 Leaking at Driver side door

Check that it's not coming in behind the door trim panel. There's a plastic sheet behind the door panel on most cars that's supposed to be sealed round the edges to prevent any water entering the door cavity on the window seal from entering the vehicle. It has a habit of coming unstuck...

kangoo van rear suspension dropped one side

Sounds like a broken spring to me. I take it it has coil springs on the front and rear? They do hate speed bumps, especially at speed  Worth checking all of them. A burst shock wouldn't make the vehicle sit to one side so changing them wouldn't affect the slouch. A broken spring could...

    Renault Megan 1.4e Cold heater?

Thanks for the reply. I'm not exactly sure which pipe you're referring to but the two feed pipes to the heater matrix are definitely not blocked. The bleed screw is broken on the top one and I've tried bleeding it on the hose itself but there doesn't seem to be any air in it. If I leave the...

    mayonnaise in my engine?

This is quite a common thing in these engines and can be caused by lots of things not least cold damp weather and short runs. One thing that's fairly common and can aggravate the problem is the engine breather hose being either blocked with debris or collapsing under vacuum when the engine is...

    satnav ./

Just a quick note to stir things up a little. You do all realise that speeding is dangerous and illegal? I agree that some cameras don't seem to be there for any reason but to catch people speeding and generate revenue through the various fines etc. but most of the static cameras in my area...

    Imbalance in front braking efficiency

I take it it passed the MOT? If so it means that the brakes both reached the required standard for a pass. This does not however mean that they're working efficiently and as the previous contributors have stated the problem should be investigated as soon as possible. Having experience of...

Ford KA black bumpers gone grey HELP!!!

Have you tried Sudocrem on the little bleeder? The dulling is caused by a combination oxidation, UV and abrasion and is easy enough to cover up in the short term with any of the methods mentioned above however none of them will last very long and you will have to re-apply these products...

    Renault Megan 1.4e Cold heater?

I'm looking to buy a little runaround and I've been to look at a 1998 Megan 1.4e with 100,000 on it. The previous owner is selling it because he's been given a company car/van and they have a family car already. He's replaced various bits and bobs like driveshafts, springs, ball joints, cat...
