    Nothing wrong with picking up the toilet supply as long as it is mains,as opposed to tank fed. Excuse my southern ignorance, but what is an external dump? are you refering to a gulley,manhole chamber or what?

    shut of the stopcock, completely undo the packing gland nut and lift up towards the spindle crotch, place P.T.F.E. tape evenly round the nut about four or five times clock wise, re-do nut up reasonably tight, Job done.
