    Sistering a joist

i would start by using a couple of acros to restore the original joist to a level position. Then put a sister next to it also on the acroes and use coach bolts to join the 2 joists.

Sash window repair - epoxy resin?

If this is going to have a solid coloured, painted finish, then you will need to use microporous paint. This doesnt coat solidly like interior paint but allows moisture trapped in timber to evaporate through its small holes or 'micropores'. ( It still looks like normal paint). It aint cheap...

Like i said... If this is number 3 he has already done some plastering or he knows a plasterer. So why muck about asking strangers? btw calling me an idiot aint helping him much either

To Damp Proof or not to Damp Proof, that is the question.

I think you are doing exactly the right thing in investigating and trying to remedy particular problems with this house. I note that you say the floors are all of concrete construction. Are you absolutely certain of this? Builders at that period. ie 1920s 1930s had a nasty habit of...

    Dryline or Tanking ?

As this is the third 'property you will be doing' on this street, why do you need to ask strangers on the internet what to do?

    Cavity wall insulation

What sort of floor does your flat have Ross? If its that new i cant imagine that the lower floor walls would be insulated and not the upper floors. they would have used that solid batt stuff I am in the dubious position of having had the expansive stuff in the '70s. some of which has...

    Rebuild costs

I am a Victorian speculative builder, currently clad in top-hat, tailcoat and sporting a waxed moustache. I would charge as much as £30 7shillings and thruppence to erect the dwelling you have just described (twirls moustache and sneers at the poor) :)

Fixing A Wall Plate To Thermalite Wall?

Cus that sounds like making work unnecessarily when Woody has already pointed out the way to go :) No one bats an eyelid when RSJs are bedded on to bits of brick/ slate/ compo so why is it gonna be a problem to mortar in a small piece of block into a wall of the same material It will be...

    Damp survey

    1) This is not an issue of rising damp for you bit i see softus couldnt resist putting that lame link in. 2) wet rot will not be an issue for you if they cure it downstairs unless you have poor ventilation. 3)Dry rot is a serious issue for you both. Has dry rot been diagnosed? This is...

    conifers for hedging

    1) Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) is very good for turning so hold on to nice looking pieces and dry it out slowly in your garage or somewhere similar. 2) Western red cedar ( Thujia plicata) would be a good conifer to plant in its stead.

    Fipper(Pocket) door problem

Could you use a chisel or a router to let the hinges further into the door? or would this create a gap at the side when the doors are in their closed position? If the worst comes to the worst you could buy different hinges or even different doors.

    Spindle moulder/router table?

For your interest: http://www.ps-tools.com/catalog/charnwood-w030-spindle-moulder-p-3472.html maximum tooling diameter of 140mm would allow for making raised field panels quite easily. I am not recommending this item but just wanted to illustrate size/cost and usefullness.

    Lavender

The one that grew bigger had extra weight on its outer stems which were consequently weighted down to the floor...? An animal urinated on the plant, causing the ring...? Or maybe its just caused by rainwater? Or mould? ... does it seem unhealthy? lavender is not a long-lived plant...

    Worm casts

Quite funny, your telling oilman to keep up. He was just trying to point out that raising the ph of your soil might help to eliminate the moss.

    Bubble for Spirit Level

That yankee word brought back memories. My dad still has his brass yankee with its jubilee clip on it to stop it rolling off wagon rooves. He used it for more than 30 years as a body builder for pickfords and other haulage companies.

    Flip Driver Set

I'm looking to buy a flip driver set but i want to make sure i get a decent countersink and not something that tears badly. Does anyone have experience of any of these? I have been looking at http://www.diytools.co.uk/diy/Main/sp-2-9533-66478-trend-snappy-flip-driver-set-4pc.asp and...

    The death penalty.

How clever do I seem to think I am softus? Causing a fire or explosion in a naval dockyard, ship, magazine or warehouse ceased to be a capital offence in 1971 in Britain... but you weren't clever enough to know that... and you weren't clever enough to describe the offence correctly... :)

    Loopy lotto result

but 1 - 49 /2 adds up to 1225 /50 gives you 25 as he first said. so he was wrong about the sequence it should be 1 - 49 not 1 - 50 but 25 was the correct answer.
