Cheers Woody, Any idea roughly how long it would take for the base to go off before building could start?

    Conservatory floor construction?

Hi, It's been ages since I've been on here, nice to see it's still lively! We are in the planning stages of a conservatory, and have been given differing opinions of which type of floor to go for. The Double Glazing co. suggested a 'floating' floor construction using joists and insulation...

IP44/65 mains downlight to match standard?

It's more for that reason really, also there's going to be a power shower fitted pretty much directly underneath it, so the chances of water splashing up onto the light (although it is more than 2.25m from the floor) are increased. Any ideas on a range that all look the same?

IP44/65 mains downlight to match standard?

Hi all, Can anyone recommend a source for the above? I need one IP44 (or higher if thats all I can find) mains voltage downlight to match the others in a bathroom, which are all out of the zones. I know their design means that they will naturally me more robust than normal D/L's but do they...

    Planning permission for block paving

Hi all, We want to block pave over our front garden, and I'm a bit unsure whether we need to involve the LABC. Am i right in thinking that a gravel bed/narrow flowerbed along the lower edge of the drive will be enough to drain rainwater, or is even this uneccessary? Does standard block...

    New plaster paint?

Hi, I have recently had a few rooms plastered and am now waiting for the skim to dry in order to paint. The plasterer told me that a new plaster paint sould be used after a couple of weeks followed by our chosen emulsion, which seemed reasonable. However, I was told at our local B&Q that a...

    Do EDF fit supply isolators?

Hi all, I'm about to begin replacing everything my side of the meter, and have been onto my local distributor (EDF-I'm in NW London) about fitting an isolator to allow me to put in a new CU safely without having to call in the fuse fairy  , who by the way already seems to have visited...

Complete mess for me to sort out....

Chri5, I got a reduction off the price on the strength of it, I always intended to rectify it myself (and yes I am qualified to 2391 and yes it IS notifiable, I know). sorry that wasn't made clear  , just thought I'd post the pics anyway, I didn't expect to get a slapped wrist for it...

Complete mess for me to sort out....

      We bought a new house a couple o months ago, and I just thought you'd all like to see what a total mess I've now got to sort out.... I took a good look in the meter cupboard on our first visit, which raisd some eyebrows (well, mine at least!)...

Schedule of Test results-what would YOU do?

Thing is, as i said I've replaced part of the cable run, including the tails going into the CU, so going by what I was taught at college, the new cable constitues a 'new circuit', or at least part of one. However, it looks as though, having read all your replies and the Regs (again! )...

Schedule of Test results-what would YOU do?

Hi all, recently finished some work for a mate, replaced part of Ring final on Ground floor, added a few points to it, as well as some decorative lighting on a Fused Spur from the same circuit. Commissioned, tested, bish bash bosh. However... I decided the work was more than you could...

    No upstairs light

Its also possible that the problem lies with one of the switches, or the cables that drop down to them, not necessarily with the rose. The flickering may have been caused by a short, which, depending on the type of fuses you have, could have caused it to blow. If you've got the 'Pull Out'...

    No upstairs light

Have you got a separate upstairs lighting circuit in your fuseboard? What sort of fuse/circuit breaker is it? Its more likely to be a loose connection or something small & furry chewing through a cable! If you've already changed the bulb once and the problem is still there , then this...

    book for C&G 2330

"Electrical Installation Work" by Brian Scaddan to start with, then "The Electrician's Guide To The Wiring Regs" by John Whitfield, once you've got your head round the basics. I found them both extremely useful, so good luck! 8)

    How many passed 1st time?

I passed 1st time, thankfully, last Winter's exam 8) I would say that 2 days is a very short time to learn from scratch, but the course is aimed at those who have a grounding in electrical installation already, so you should be OK!! Have faith and look confident in the practical, and GOOD...
