    Which saw?

Thanks for the input - other than the ChrisR's B&Q sliding mitre saw, if I did stretch my budget, which saws are worth checking out?

    Which saw?

Hi Guys, I do a fair bit of diy for myself and friends and for wood cutting I normally use a circular saw or a hand saw. The thing with using the circular saw is that I find it takes a fair while to set up each cut on my workbench so I was thinking of investing in a table saw or mitre saw...

    for coggy

Hi Coggy, Another thing that Google (and some other search engines) like is if you're part of a 'web community' hence the upsurge in what are called webrings. These are basically a load of websites that put links to each on their websites. Google sees this as community building and pushes...

    Leak around skylight

Hi Guys, Just thought I'd let you know what happened with this... The windows are velux and when I took a closer look at the skylights, there were various soft metal coverings which prevent water getting through. Basically, I took these coverings off (which go all the way around the...

    Leak around skylight

Hi GwaiLo, Unfortunately cost means that won't be an option...so what's the best I can do with what I have? Thanks. Tin.

    Leak around skylight

Hi Masona, I think it is a velux but it's definitely not a dome type - it's flat and the body of it sits slightly raised above the roof line.

    Leak around skylight

Hi, I have a large building at the bottom of my garden which has been there from before I moved in and we've converted it into a gym/summer room. The roof is pitched although the angle is very shallow - definitely no more than 20 degrees and has two skylights. A damp patch inside...

Vaillant VCW GB 242 EH / VCW GB 282 EH Combi Boiler

The pressure release valve on my boiler got stuck in an open position so as soon as I would fill the boiler, the pressure would begin to drop to zero so I had to constantly keep filling it until I managed to replace the pressure release valve. Once you've done it, you'll find that there is...

Vaillant VCW GB 242 EH / VCW GB 282 EH Combi Boiler

Hi Senter, I'm no expert but I have the same boiler. If you check the instructions, you should find there are 5 pipes coming into the boiler, 2 for the central heating (in and out), 1 for the gas, 1 for hot water out and a cold water feed pipe. If you follow this cold water feed pipe along...

    Earthing a jaccuzi's motor

It is bonded but I've got a feeling the earth has been connected to the earthing of a socket outside of the bathroom (I guess whoever did it thought that the earth in a socket was as good as earthing directly to the earth block on the consumer unit). I'm not so sure and wanted to know if this...

    Earthing a jaccuzi's motor

When something needs to be earthed such as a jacuzzi motor, is it necessary to run the earthing cable directly to the earth block on the consumer unit or is it okay to attach the earth cable to the earth in the cable from the spur to the power supply of the jacuzzi using a junction box. The...

    Plastic connectors vs junction boxes

Is there any accepted wisdom about using plastic connectors instead of junction boxes? Are plastic connectors acceptable for extending a wire and are they acceptable insetad of a junction box? I've extended a cable and used plastic connectors and then wrapped it up in insulated tape. Is...

    Wannabee Sparky

You've definitely got a point there, ginyarg... If you get someone in to fit your bathroom, they will do all the plumbing and electrics normally - so it helps to have a cross section of skills - plumbing, carpentry, plastering and electrical. That seems to be the way of today...jack of...

    Boiler pressure dropping

I had a similar problem with my Vaillant combi and it turned out to be the pressure valve for the overflow that had begun to stick and so never shut properly. You mentioned that when the pressure went above 3 bar the overflow was dripping - you might want to check it's not dripping all the time.

    Wannabee Sparky

A question to all the qualified electricians out there... I have a successful career in IT making pretty good money but I am soooooo bored! I really enjoy working with my hands instead of staring at a screen all day. However, I'm 34 and it would be a big move to try and change career...

    Edging for garden beds

I was watching one of those gardening programmes on TV (the one with the Irish guy - Dermot or something)... Anyways, he used a stainless steel edge for his borders...does anyone know where I could get these from - I've tried all the local garden centres and looked on the web and no luck so...
