    Boiler flue close to pipe

I really couldn't say, only what you can see in the picture, and probably three metres under the floorboards that I suspect may not have any fall to speak of. I'm not going back there, and I only have a mere passing interest, nothing else.

    Boiler flue close to pipe

I agree, but the thought had entered my mind, is three (at least) 90deg bends with such little fall acceptable (there's another 3m out of sight under the floorboards before the bathroom) (?)

    Boiler flue close to pipe

I thought so ... just the thought of a hole appearing in a horizontal toilet waste would be the things of nightmares! As you say, should be fine I'm sure.

    Boiler flue close to pipe

Wasn't really the rainwater goods I was thinking ... more the toilet waste, although I guess there'll be condensation off that also.

    Boiler flue close to pipe

Out of interest (there doing other jobs), is this acceptable? Looked online, it seems 75mm beneath pipework is ok. I just wondered if the pipe will get damaged over time.

    MR16 dead?

Reading that (DC lamp) advert again, I think the difference is just that it can cope with 24v as well as 12v, not that it's specifically DC. Seems it's just a more efficient lamp

    MR16 dead?

Something I hadn't considered, but I'm assuming, looking at that advert, that maybe your normal 'domestic' GU5.3 lamps can't be used on DC... This is relevant with LED as apposed to tungsten obviously But isn't it a DC output from an SMPSU anyway? I've never tried, but is that not the case?

    MR16 dead?

As Eric said earlier, they get used (or did do 'till recently) for garden ponds, and other garden lighting, whirlpool baths/hot-tubs and the like, as well as boats, caravans, motorhomes etc, so unless I'm mistaken, they'll probably be around for a while. If the purchase price comparison is not...

Whatever it is, it wasn't secured to the wall very well.

a couple EICR question from a home owner

You're right john about the irrelevance of a wooden enclosure under a wooden staircase. Perhaps I should've said "the lack of a non-combustible enclosure". This leaves the staircase unprotected. Although Eric says that a staircase in a dwelling is not classed as an 'escape route', I seem to...

a couple EICR question from a home owner

Not sure you can say 'nothing wrong' exactly. If say a plastic CU is in a wooden enclosure, which is underneath a wooden staircase, and it's the only exit from the bedroom(s) it would at the very least be marked as a C3. Although of course a C3 should still lead to a 'Satisfactory' report...

    Quinetic repeater

Ha ha! Thanks for the reply. I can imagine the sort of response I'd get if I told the client that they've got to say "Hey Google" every time they walk in the bedroom. Looks like I'm going to be chopping holes in the ceiling, with a bit of redecorating to follow.

    Quinetic repeater

I was peviously asking about this for a bathroom fan, but I've now decided to use a PIR for that purpose. However, because of the layout in the apartment, the problem is with a second bedroom light, which although has a permanent live to it, it doesn't have a switch-wire. (Actually I've made...

    Hot weather and fridges

Some of you may have noticed, that it's been a bit warm of late. Just become aware that our fridge isn't working, although the freezer half is still working (American style Samsung, 8 years old). Is it likely to have been effected by the weather does anyone think? And if so, is it likely to...

    Indicator for outside lights

Using dp switches like mikeyd suggested obviously allows each of the four switches (that are all located together) to switch each light individually whilst each, (or any combination of switches) to also illuminate the indicator. Linking all four switch wires together would obviously bring on...

    Indicator for outside lights

Of course ... I knew there was a simple solution. Why didn't I think of that? I wasn't thinking logically! Should have thought about that when I first got the switches. I'll order some more, and do that - Thanks

    Indicator for outside lights

Yes, all on one feed. What it is, I've installed a 12-gang grid switch, that the 'flood'/wall lights are all switched from, together with other garden lights. It so happens that there's just one 'way' in the grid plate unused, and it seemed a worthwhile theory that it could be used as an...

    Indicator for outside lights

I've just wired in four outside lights, each switched separately. Been thinking it would be good to have an indicator to show if any were on - ie. left on (during the day particularly). Don't want four separate indicators, just one that would show if any were on. Can anyone think of a simple...

    Payment by widow

It's hundreds. As he was a long standing associate, I might've just put it behind me, but the majority of it was for materials, and I did offer to just remove the (almost still brand new) light fittings which could've likely been reused, and I would've just written off my time on the job...
