There was me thinking people would be given professional advice here. Ho hum.

Central heating oil tank in garage

Well that might be true in Scotland, but it is most certainly not the case in England. Insurance companies have. have paid out where reasonable steps had been taken to inspect the tank, and paid out even when they failed after inspection.

Central heating oil tank in garage

From the inspectapedia link That rather brings into question statements of 10 year replacement requirements. Even outside it is reasonable to expect 40 years for a properly maintained steel tank.

Help needed on water ingress in boiler flue

A 1999 Camray will not be a condensing boiler. If it is not coming from the water side, it must be water condensing from the flue. If that is the case it will need a new liner. This has been in for 17 years, so it's possibly at the end of its life. It would normally go on longer but it would...

Central heating oil tank in garage

Misleading info. It is unlikely the insurance company would refuse to pay. They just might. If there's space you could put 2hr firebreak round it.

HETAS log burner smoking in bedroom

The question was "how much combustion air is there?" "Hope" does not really answer the question, does it?

10 year old Grandee condensing oil boiler and Honeywell ST6400C - CH only works if HW set to on

The condensate dripping is a design fault and occurs with the older version of the secondary heat exchanger.

Water pipe vibrating like a drill

Take the tap apart and put some silicone grease or lanolin around the spindle of the bit that holds the washer. It may stop the hammer.

    Homemade water heater

Here's something to keep you busy, calculations for water heating for an on-demand heater. Lots of power needed. For most central heating systems the pipe size will allow only 13kW to flow round the pipes, so the high power is needed for DHW heating.

10 year old Grandee condensing oil boiler and Honeywell ST6400C - CH only works if HW set to on

Well we can't see the boiler from here, but it is likely to be the diverter valve and/or condensate dripping from the condenser onto the relay socket. A common problem with these boilers. Then again you don't say much about the boiler. Is it wall mounted, floor mounted , inside, outside?????

    Drayton 3-way Port valve stuck

I take the head off and use a spanner to see if things will move. If it doesn't move it is possible to get it moving, but it also indicates it is time for a new valve.

    Oil pipe leak

If you have a sight gauge that is connected to the oil pipe after the tank valve, you can do a test. Turn off the boiler. Turn off the tank valve. Fill the sight gauge tube. Open the sight gauge valve and note if the level falls continuously. Of course if you have any other indicator that...

    Damp, Floors, Airbricks etc.

Ask your question here . Lots of similar problems are encountered there and the people on the forum are excellent. In many cases interfering with the damp course is unnecessary. From what I can see in your picture, some of the problem may be the cement pointing that has been put in. It stops the...

    Cavity Wall Condensation Problem

Humidity is usually called "Relative Humidity" for a reason. It is temperature dependent. Air that is near 100% RH near 0ºC is a much lower percentage if the temperature of that air is raised to 20ºC. Conversely air near 100% RH at 20ºC will be dropping moisture if it is taken down to 0ºC. So...

    Cavity Wall Condensation Problem

My house has several cold solid walls too, no condensation (except on windows in the bedroom) but then we have enough ventilation. There is a choice: stay warm and risk ill health, or reduce the risk considerably by ventilating and wearing suitable clothes. JohnD is right I'm afraid, and...

    Base for pre-fab shed

I have several sheds 8) The biggest is 20' x 10'. I scraped the ground flat, put down concrete blocks, put scaffold boards down across the width of the shed at 2' centres, then screwed scaffold boards to these so they are along the length of the shed. None of this waste of materials and...

New thoughts on an old damp issue...

Our house is 150 ish so roughly the same age. Can you post a photo or two? The way a lime worker showed me how to tell the difference was to taste it. You can find a bit of cement mortar and compare the taste. If it's the same as the render. then that's what you have.

New thoughts on an old damp issue...

Can't agree with that, sorry. If cement render is cracked, water gets in, and it doesn't know where to get out. As I go around to customers, I see many examples of cement render problems. Take it off and use a lime render. That is, a render which has no cement in it at all. It is not a cure...
