New boiler installation - Contravention of regulations?

I hope you're not still servicing boilers after writing this  "I allow about 75 minutes for servicing these and add £12 if it needs a new thermocouple. I only replace them if the output voltage is low." You need to go back on that course [/b]

Can I use this pre-cast Flue? (pics)

Why is that then John ? It looks fine to me although it looks shallow and might need a spacer kit. Op...you won't need that flue for a balanced flue fire as it vents to an outside wall. Get someone in to take a look and advise you.

    Soldering lead pipe closed

Cut the pipe then clean the inside with a shavehook or file, flux the inside then clamp or hammer it closed (flat) then solder across. It is not difficult but take it steady with the blowtorch.Or just buy a leadlock fitting to copper.

    Joining drainpipe bits

I am a time served plumber who spent a lot of that time fitting RWP on the largest housing estate in europe at the time. You do not glue RWP. You allow it to leak in case a downpipe gets blocked. You would not want the whole gutter system filling with water.

Silly question: should downpipes be screwed together?

All pipe fittings should be push fit only and be allowed to overflow in case of blockage. You would not want the whole gutter system filling with water and overflowing. That's what i was taught in my apprenticeship in the 70's when i spent what seemed like forever fitting RWP on the largest...

    Cleaners that strip chrome

Hydrochloric acid will strip the chrome off of taps etc but is only 10% strength in brick cleaner and not strong enough. All good plumbers should know that different metals expand at different temperatures and a chrome tap thrown into a hot Rayburn,Aga or coal fire will come out minus the...
