    Don't forget.....when using rods alway twist in a clockwise direction i.e. tightening the rod onto the plunger, NEVER twist anti-clockwise, the plunger can come unscrewed and remain in the pipe, and that can be costly!!!!

    James, yes.....no cold tank, system now has a Mega-flo so everthing at mains pressure. Noise normally occurs when loo is flushed ,but can be reduced by turning on the wash basin cold tap while loo is re-filling.

    Unfortunately the feed for the loo is off of a 22mm pipe under a tiled floor that also supplies a wash basin and a shower so a flow reducer would have to be fitted to the 22mm pipe and would affect all three.

    Anyone had any experience of the "Mini Rester" on the Toolstation website (code 85345 )which is meant to stop water hammer? If so did it work and where did you fit it?? We've got hammer which we think is caused by a toilet which was not converted from low to high pressure when the plumbing...

    Thanks for that Stem, Gone for the the full works...chased in the cable and the 1 gang back box new cable run in conduit and rendered back into the wall just waiting now for the plasterer to come and skim the ceiling then I can start tiling. The light by the way says suitable for zones 2 & 3...

    To clarify......it appears that whoever did it (before we moved in) used a juction box in the lighting circuit to nick a live feed from, ran it across the loft where it has then been chased into the bathroom wall to reappear behind the light fitting. It is definately on the lighting circuit...

    Old pipework!

    Decorating a downstairs cloakroom for a friend and noticed after stripping off the old paper that the plaster seemed to be bulging and loose in one corner. Knocked off the loose and what do I find.....piece of old pipe that has gone so rusty it's expanded and pushed the plaster and render away...

    Oh my gawd!! All these things waiting to go wrong, maybe I should stick with what I've got.....1 fan unit and 1 PCB failure in 13 years sounds quite reasonable now compared with all these supa dupa new models!!! :roll:

    Thanks guys, Seems Vaillant are just in the lead. Another question....one of the brochures I have shows the SEDBUK bands for each boiler, but doesn't say what SEDBUK stands for or what the bands mean

    My existing system is gravity fed with a Potterton Netaheat boiler and I'm looking to get the system changed to a sealed one, doing away with all the tanks etc. Does anyone have any preference or favorites when it comes to choosing a new boiler i.e. quick and easy to get serviced, reliable etc...
