Kitchen unit thats about 1.5m high?

Check out the IKEA Besta range. http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/categories/departments/living_room/12151/ Cabinets come in 60w*40d * heights 38/64/128/192cm but the doors are 38 or 64cm high. They're designed to be stackable too. They're not what you'd call substantial - the side panels are...

    Upgrading kitchen units

From the picture it looks like your units have oak veneer carcasses, so IMO replacing the doors and drawer fronts only with gloss white (or other solid colour) wouldn't work as the units would be two-tone. Having the odd bit of contrasting trim can work (like when we installed a spare bit of oak...

    Upgrading kitchen units

You could replace the white tiles with something a bit flashier and get some more decorative switches and sockets. I've got similar oak shaker units in my kitchen with a black marble effect laminate worktop and backed them with 10cm gloss black tiles interspersed with red and pale grey ones and...

    Cat5e associated componentry spec.

As long as its from a reputable supplier, it should have passed certification to Cat5e or above standards. Though in a domestic installation you'll be hard pushed to hit the limits of what it's capable of.

How do I plug back of kitchen cupboards where budgies fall down?

Wander down to your local £1 /99p shop and pick up some Gutter Guard, which is thin flexible plastic mesh on a roll about 150mm wide and a few metres long. That should be suitably budgie resistant whilst retaining airflow and preventing excess lightness to your wallet. Staple or thumb tack it in...

    'Plastic' skirting board

Or as they call it "High-density Polymer". Saw this stuff at Screwfix and liked the idea of it being A) Having a recess to run AV cables in, B) Probably more flexible than wood to deal with my less than perfect walls, and C) Cheap and convenient. Has anyone here got any experience with this...

    TV Wall mount

It shouldnt make any difference, unless you want to mount the TV directly over the outlets to conceal them in which case a basic Flat bracket like http://www.toolstation.com/shop/p59708 or http://www.screwfix.com/p/sanus-universal-tv-wall-mount-fixed-22-50/4079j or anything similar from retailer...

    TV Wall mount

A quick bit of Googling says your TV probably has VESA 200 standard mounting points in the back. For a TV that size, you should be able to use any VESA200 compatible bracket from flat rails to multi-swivel cantilever ones, as long as you can get a solid grip on the wall.

Soundproofing a party wall without losing too much space.

It's probably less effort than it sounds, me not being a professional I was doing a lot of this for the first time and without an assistant to hold things, pass tools and make me feel guilty about stopping for tea breaks ;) I honestly can't tell yet as I haven't moved back into the room and my...

Green Glue - expensive sound proof adhesive any good?

Apparently Green Glue doesn't work as well if you just use it to sandwich between plasterboard and the brickwork. (Disclaimer - I found one post on the entire internet from a chap who is either a GG employee or their main US distributor stating this was the case, couldn't find anybody else...

Soundproofing a party wall without losing too much space.

Well, to resurrect my old thread, I finally did the soundproofing. First, I took off the old render/plaster from the wall which gave me 62mm depth on average between the wall and the edge of the window recess. I then installed 38w x 19d wood battens vertically, with foil bubble wrap insulation...

Wiring a TV to & stereo to same pair of speakers!!!

I have a QED MA19 switching unit for this task - switch one pair of speakers between the AV Amp (Marantz) and the HiFi Amp (Rotel). They're out of production but they can be found on EBay occasionally.

Hiding Data Cables - PC, Router and TVs

There is a bit of a knack to making up ethernet cables, mostly because they're small, fiddly and you aren't supposed to untwist them much - especially with Cat6, and it's easy to find a wire hasn't pushed home far enough to get crimped. But even if you aren't running in or making up your own...

    Simple soundproofing

If you put the cases floor to ceiling with a small gap off the wall and sealed around them, this could almost be equivalent of a stud wall. Books themselves aren't bad as a sound absorber but the back of the Billy range are just hardboard so anywhere the books aren't filling just has 2mm of...

Resilient bars or air gap for sound reduction?

The idea of the resilient bar is to decouple the plasterboard from the wall, but if you're building a new studwall which isnt directly coupled to the party wall, then decoupling with resilient bar is probably going to have minimal extra effect. Though it's unlikely to do any harm and the bar can...

Three simple questions for the Moderator(s) here

Oh I have. Two weeks ago. But as two of the last three posts demonstrate, GD has become a much less friendly place since RNR started his stirring. What used to be banter between some folks is turning into outright hostility.

    Dummy CCTV camera

I've always wondered about CCTV - if you have big obvious CCTV cameras and warning signs, arent the thieving scrotes just going to keep their hoodies up so you can't see their faces? I'll be going with obvious alarm obvious locks concealed CCTV when I get that far in my refurb.

Three simple questions for the Moderator(s) here

    1) Why is RNReindeer still allowed on this site, as it's plainly obvious he has no interest or input in any form of DIY but just comes here to troll the GD forum calling everyone racist and generally stirring up trouble. 2) As RNR is quite clearly the latest sockpuppet of RougeHanger, why is...

Jimmy page and his new girlfriend

Well if she's hoping to bonk him to death and inherit the millions he hasn't snorted, injected, drunk or stuffed into strippers undies, I reckon she's out of luck. If his lifestyle hasn't killed him by now one more frisky young girl isn't going to! My late nan thought Mrs Merton was a real...

Would you rent your property out to students?

Two of the guys I work with have buy-to-let properties on the same estate they've been renting out to students (and in one case a visiting lecturer) and haven't had any serious issues. Worst I recall him mentioning recently was a family he rented to who dried their washing indoors on racks but...
