Parquet Floor - Sanding and varnish/polish advice

Thanks for the reply ree. From what I have seen the charges for sanding and polishing floors looks quite high and could cost a couple of thousand pounds. I cannot afford that amount of money so DIY is the plan.

Parquet Floor - Sanding and varnish/polish advice

I have several downstairs rooms with parquet floor that need a bit of TLC. My questions are- 1. We are looking for a nice shiny finish. What is the best type of polish or varnish to apply to get a good finish. 2. I have repaired a small area where we removed an under stairs cupboard. Where...

Compare noise on kitchen extractor hoods

I am trying to compare the noise output (db) of kitchen hoods but I cannot find any useful sites that provide the required info, costs etc. Any suggestions. I want a 90cm hood, possibly curved, with low noise output at a sensible price. Perhaps I am expecting too much but hoped there was a...

    JCC Fireguard downlights advice

Room is about 5M by 9M - kitchen/dinning area. Not quite tennis court but a good size. 30 is just my estimate and is possibly too high but I am trying to get an idea before meeting electrician tomorrow. Prepared to discuss options not just do as I am told :) Like the idea of downlights across...

    JCC Fireguard downlights advice

I have been told that the JCC Fireguard lights are a good brand. Having the kitchen extension done and I will need about 30 downlights fitted. My thinking is that I will have halogen lights fitted to start with to keep cost sensible and then switch to LED when prices become more competitive in...

I have a garden that needs raising. Its about 100m square and needs raising about 30-40cms. I assume you can buy soil by the lorry. Anyone got any ideas where to get top soil from and how much this may cost. One more thing. I will need to returf the area. Any idea on cost for lots of turf...

Air vent in lounge - can i fill it in

Further to my previous comments now the cold is here it lets the bloody cold in. The diameter is about 8-10 inches and it has a simple plastic vent on each side. Its just above the skirt and you can feel a draft blowing around the room from it.

What is teeh best carpet underlay and where to buy it

Man from local firm visited this weekend. He suggested that Axfelt would be a bit ‘excessive’ for the bedrooms. He did discuss benefits of it but he thinks that Cloud 9 Cirus or Y&B Cosi 10 would be suitable for bedrooms, softer underfoot. There was no heavy sell on underlay as we had an open...

What tools do I need for painting? (Ideally I want non drip)

Perhaps its just me but i find the finish from a pad a bit cleaner. No gimmicks just a standard pad on a handle. I'm no pro and perhaps its my technique but the pad leaves a smoother finish when I'm painting walls. Tend to use rollers on ceiling though for ease.

What is teeh best carpet underlay and where to buy it

Stank indeed. The mark up on their product is ridiculous. Loads to look at so ideal for window shopping on colours etc. but no great for price. Think I may opt for Axfelt 65. Seen it for around £6.50 m2.

Drill for concrete - will this do?

BOSCH PBH 2500 SRE SDS HAMMER DRILL 600W Seen this drill on offer for about £70. Is this a decent drill for concrete and brick walls. I am a DIY (from time to time) person, not a professional as my many posts on here demostrate. Thanks for any advice.

What is teeh best carpet underlay and where to buy it

It was one of the sheds, carpet right, offering a rubber underlay at £10 per m2. Looks like i can buy similar online at about £4-5 for Tredaire, Duralay for about £3.50-4. There is an alternative called Cloud 9 Cumulus at about £3. I am looking for hard wearing underlay. It will be used in 3...

Do not really want to put anymore paper on the ceilings. Is there no way of getting all residue off.
