    (Unusual) Flared fitting advice

Thanks, will have a look, that might work to seal the leak. The problem is the end of the steel pipe is flared, so you can’t get an olive over it ( it’s a 22mm inlet.) so my plan to replace the whole assembly isn’t going to work. And cutting SS pipe is not fun (bitter experience when replacing...

    (Unusual) Flared fitting advice

Hi all. Looking for a bit of advice. Had a leak from the T fitting that supplies the hot water to my wash hand basin and kitchen tap (kitchen is just below bathroom) It’s a 22m to 15/15 fitting, and the leak was on the 22m inlet. No bother thinks me, pop off the nut, fit new olive and jobs a...

Leaking Stainless steel pipe - options?

For our sins, the water piping in our house is mainly 22mm stainless steel. The feed pipe for our downstairs wc has a slight leak (More a weep at the moment) - without going into too many details, it looks like a corrosive has caused the pipe to corrode. The pipe is wall mounted, exposed and...

(Possible) Asbestos Garage roof repair question

We have a 1970s Marley garage (actually half of a semi-detached double garage - one of the two previous owners brilliant(NOT) idea) with a corrugated concrete roof, which I presume to be asbestos concrete. It developed a couple of leaks at the front/back panel joins which I have seals with...

I need a few pallets - best place to get them?

I need a few pallets for home use in the garage (basically to lift things off an occasionally damp floor until I get the time to fix it!) What's the best bet? Go to a pallet supplier or scrounge some from delivery companies?

    Hotpoint HS70X Cooker Hood

Got a problem with this. Switched on the lights and one 'popped' - No bother, blown bulb I thought, got a spare one. Took the blown bulb out and replaced it still won't work. The fan also won't work. Changed second bulb just in case. Changed the fuse in the plug, still nothing - tested the...

Central heating Programmer - Fused spur needed question?

Since we moved in a couple of years ago, our CH has been serviced by an independent CORGI Reg plumber. However, he is moving into contractor work, and won't be doing small domestic jobs anymore. So we thought we'd take out a Service deal with one of the Gas cos. Anyway, to cut a story short...

Problem with door hinge screw on B&Q Kitchen Unit

The kitchen in our house is a B&Q one, about 2 years old. One of the wall unit doors appeared to be hanging strangely, and on examination some of the screws that held the hinge to the unit carcass appeared to be loose (They were free-turning!) - I took down the door, and sure enough 3 out of the...

Wood coloured uPVC - any issues or problems longer term?

We are going to get new windows fitted, and my wife has taken a fancy to the oak-coloured uPVC style (I prefer white, but can go with the flow). Are there any issues or problems with this type of finish as opposed to the morel traditional white PVC - or advantages (e.g. less risk of staining)?

    Hotpoint UT47X Fan Oven overheating/overcooking

Our oven is overheating/over cooking (basically everything cooks far quicker than it should and cakes etc get burnt!) - also inside is very dirty from expelled fats etc Fan appears to be working OK, so I'm assuming it's the themostat - does it sound like that? And is it self-fixable, or am...

Replacing exterior window hinges- some advice

Thanks for that. The downstairs windows have ordinary hinges, I suspect because these are upstairs hinges they are this design to allow the windows to open fully.

Replacing exterior window hinges- some advice

This is the same type of hinge (and yes I know it has a little corrosion as well, and the windows need reputtied!) Difficult to get a good photo of the bad one without getting the ladders out! (HOuse had lain empty for about 4 years before we moved in, suspect nothing painted for more than 12)

Replacing exterior window hinges- some advice

We live in a 70s (Wimpey) house which still has the original windows. Not been in long, so gradually doing all the repairs and things you need to do that hadn't been done in a while here! One of the (painted) window hinges has obviously had moisture enter it and has become corroded - not just...

Rerendering outside wall - what goes at the bottom?

Mmmm, someone needs to tell Wimpey that then........ Sorry. maybe should have explained in more detail. The Wall above the DPC is finished in stone rough cast. The DPC has a drip edge, and is 2 -3 cm proud of the wall below. The two sets of render aren't linked. The ground brickwork is...

Rerendering outside wall - what goes at the bottom?

Long time lurker, finally a question! Having got inside the house sorted, now looking at the exterior. The house is a 70s built brick house, external walls a mix of decorative brick and rendered - roughcast above the DPC and plain finished render below. At some point the render has been...
