kitchen extractor - do i need one??

^woody^ as you seem to be a man who knows about these things, is that still the case if you are doing controlled works such as electrics and gas as part of the refit? Or an RSJ to take out a structural wall? Or would the question of actually adding the oven/hob always just be incidental?

Building a garage bigger than 30m2

Oh and electrics are all Part P governed outside so you either need a sparky who can properly sign off or else to include them in your building regs approval (who I'm fairly sure will have something to say about the water too).

Building a garage bigger than 30m2

There are two bits, planning and building regs. If you're over 30 sqm then you need building regs. As you are building by the boundary you would also need building regs for anything over (I think) 12 sqm unless it is subtantially non-combustible. Planning is then on top of that and is the...

    Removing a Dualstream Accumulator

Thanks AlanE, I do actually appreciate the comments telling me not to touch as much as the ones telling me its fine. I'm not looking for a final decision on this, just looking to understand what the important elements are so I can make an informed decision on whether or not I do need an...

    Removing a Dualstream Accumulator

Oh and if its a heating expansion vessel shouldn't it be bright red? or is that just custom? This is definitely white.

    Removing a Dualstream Accumulator

Boilerman2 I do appreciate the advice (although this maybe sounds ungrateful), but is it OSO Dualstream you do rather than GAH? The installation manual for mine (GAH) very explicitly on page 4: "This installation method does not allow for the accumulator to take up expansion from the...

    Removing a Dualstream Accumulator

Thanks Simon. Yes the plan is to turn it off for a few days and blind test if SWMBO notices when running her baths in the morning  After all the earache I had from her about the cost and then the "hideousness" and size of my lovely chemical factory lookalike in the utility room...

    Removing a Dualstream Accumulator

Thanks for that. Yes ISTR it is white and have also tracked down the installation instructions from the vendor which suggests it is an alternate configuration, page 4 of this: http://www.gah.co.uk/downloads/GAH-Dualstream-technical-guide-installation-instructions.pdf I'll take the manual...

    Removing a Dualstream Accumulator

Thanks for the replies. Not sure if it is usual or not but my tank does have a separate expansion vessel (at least thats what I assume the small tank floating above is. Does that change things? Also I thought the accumulator could be installed anywhere in the house, how does it act as...

    Removing a Dualstream Accumulator

We had a Dualstream (mains pressure hot water tank and cold water accumulator) installed on the new house as we were spending a packet on getting the heating re-done and didn't want to risk not having a good supply of hot water for the wife's baths. We're now looking at re-doing the utility...

    BBRI? and bathroom sink height

Oops. This is a freestanding basin which was supposed to sit on top of a wooden unit. The guy in question cut a bloody great hole in it to countersink it as this was "in accordance with BBRI specifications" to get it to the correct height. Closest Google gets is the Belgian Building Research...

    BBRI? and bathroom sink height

Can anyone tell me what BBRI stands for? Allegedly they specify regulation height for bathroom sinks and all city and guilds plumbers install to their 800mm specification. Thanks wysi

    Low Mains Pressure

Thanks Simon. Do you have experience of pumping accumulators? It doesn't look to be something GAH offer but I have seen it offered by one manufacturer.

    Low Mains Pressure

Well, yes, kind of. As per the first post SWMBO demands a bath every morning. Even off the cold tap it takes 15 to 20 mins to run the bath and as we both work thats out of the question, sleep is too precious. So we need a higher flow rate to use the bath. If we get a higher flow rate I...

    Low Mains Pressure

I think its pretty certain the old boiler needs to go. Flow at the main kitchen tap is about 20 l/min and pressure is much better. However the flow off the cold water tap in the utility (by the combi) is the bit thats only getting 9 l/min, the combi is giving off even less than that...

    Low Mains Pressure

Very little. Unfortunately he's very much the plumber / jack of all trades rather than proper heating engineer. Original intention was just a bit of a facelift for the bathrooms and I don't think he has the experience. He isn't corgi registered and would be getting a friend in to do a...

    Low Mains Pressure

Help all!! Been getting really quite worried and annoyed over the heating for our new place. SWMBO insists on a bath every morning and the en-suite (fed off an old and possibly knackered combi) at our new house isn't going to cut it without some fairly serious work. Piping to this has really...
