Being Naive with Fridge Freezer - Beware.

I bought a fridge freezer (a Logik model L50BS22) in March to replace the one in my garage. It worked perfectly up 'til December when it stopped freezing. Service engineer said it was because the weather is too cold and the thermostat wouldn't operate below a certain temperature. He...

Smeg Extractor hood - no lights

I've now managed to remove the 'chimney' cover and I can see a smallish black box with wires entering and leaving. Removing the box's cover I can see a 3-way connector strip and what looks like a cylindrical 'capoacitor' (?) - see photo. Is this the transformer? If so how do I remove/replace it...

Smeg Extractor hood - no lights

I've a Smeg KSEV 905X extractor hood. The lights have stopped working, the fan works OK. I've tested the light bulbs (Halogen G4 12 volt types) and they're OK. I assume the problem lies with the either light switch or the transformer (?) However I can't find an obvious way to get into the body...

    Britannia Cooker Rotisserie motor

I have a double oven Britannia stove. If it helps the reference/model numbers are: "Nr AR1303" and "MOD SI-10T6-SS" and "ART JFD100-6MP" My problem is with the Rotisserie in the small oven - it works Ok but the motor has become quite loud and a bit 'grindy'. Is a spray of WD40 dangerous ? What...

    Which Flush Cone ?

Help please, I have a toilet with the cistern connected by a flush-pipe. Can I replace an external flush cone (the wrap around jobbie) with an internal flush cone (the ribbed beasties) ? In other word are they interchangeable ? I'm a bit of a newby at this sort of thing. Thanks in advance

    Two part toilet syphon ?

How much easier it would be if a toilet syphon came in two parts. One part the tube to the toilet, another part the syphon mechanism/unit itself. If this were the case then replacing a defective syphon unit would merely be unclipping the old syphon unit from the tube and clipping on a new syphon...

Time between scratch coat & top coat

Hi Forum, Some advice please I've laid a scratch coat on a small breeze-block wall. The mix was 5-1 with no other additives. How long do I need to wait before applying the top coat please ? (I intend to use 5-1 mix again with no additives). Thank you

    Delayed Fill Valve

Hi, I have a Skylo bottom entry cistern valve. It features a 'delayed fill' function. However the delay between flush and refill is quite a long time, minutes rather than seconds. Will someone please advise me how to adjust it - or what might be wrong if it is not adjustable. Please note the...

    Any 4x2 Timber ?

I have an external door frame to repair. The sole plate is partly rotted as is one of the uprights. The timber is rough-cut 4x2. Yes actually good old fashioned 4x2 and not the modern reduced metric 'equivalent'. I wish to scarf in new timber. My question is does anyone know where (in the...

    Loft Insulation

The loft of my daughter's 'new' house is insulated - 100mm. From what I can tell from the paperwork this insulation was laid in the 1980's. It appears to be fibre rolls, still quite firm but appears to be quite dirty in places (presumably where there once was roof leakage). I know insulation...

    Shelf overhang

The shelves will be in the kitchen and will hold general stuff, like spice jars, sundry packets e.g. of rice and the like - nothing individually heavy. The wall is an external wall made of brick. The shelves are some 300mm deep. Hope this helps. Thanks Bazza

    shelf over radiator ?

In my daughter's kitchen there's a wall cabinet above a radiator. Any foodstuff in the cabinet is adversely affected by the heat from the radiator. As space is tight it's not just a situation of merely putting foodstuff elsewhere. So I'm thinking that a solution might be to position a shelf...

Bosch Classixx Conditioner drawer retaining water

I've a Classixx washing machine. Of late, at the end of the washing cycle there's been water still in the conditioner compartment of the drawer - about 3 quarters full. Note the conditioner has been flushed out - it is just water remaining. Now, if I top up the water left in the drawer it...
