How to size panel rads to allow boiler condense

Condensing boilers are designed to work with a flow/return temperature difference of 20C. The return temperature needs to be below 55C for condensing to occur (the lower the temperature, the greater the condensing). The current "official" recommendation is to set the flow temp of a condensing...

The forume has changed since I last used it. To carry on from where I was ... The company making and installing the annexe does not do plumbing, so that's up to us. There will be a small bathroom with toiler, hand-basin and shower. My question concerns the instalation of the shower, Here is...

TBSE on a very long radiator

You say that, but BS EN442 requires rads to be tested using TBSE. It, allegedly, gives 2% more output compared to BBOE.

Best way to heat small building

Thanks for all the suggestions; there's plenty to think about. I had already discounted storage heaters for the reasons given by SimonH2. I was not aware that oil filled radiators took longer to heat the space. I don't know if that is significant as most of the heating up will be done before...

Extension - seconded zoned gas boiler

Whoever designed your extension should have done a heat loss calculation for the original house and the house with extension. Do you have this information?

Best way to heat small building

The building is single storey detached, built in the 1970's, and has electricity only - no gas. It is about 8m square, divided into several rooms. It will be used for sales and as offices. What is the best way of heating the building? It will only be used in the daytime - say from 8am to 9pm.

Bypass Valve Setting on a Mult-zone setup

A bypass is not intended as a stand-by, in case a motorized valve fails. Provided you buy a decent valve, e.g Honeywell (not an Asian look-a-like) you should get many years of life out of them. Your boiler does have an internal bypass, but it's mainly there to regulate the pump output. (See the...

I have incorrectly wired my replacement programmer (ed)

How doyou know that the Danfoss fault was not caused by the backplate? Have you checked that there are no strands of wire touching an adjactent terminal? I would change the backplate for a start. (Assuming you got one with the ST9400) TURN POWER OFF AT MAINS FIRST Write down which wire...

    Opentherm & Weather Comp Boilers

So short that there is only one boiler listed; and that's a "liquid fuel" of a make I've never come across. I remember reading, a long time ago, that the OT Associationw were stopping testing boilers for compatibility, only testing controls. Weather comp is, obviously, not mentioned. There is a...

    Opentherm & Weather Comp Boilers

Does anyone know if there is a list anywhere online of current boilers which support Opentherm and/or Weather Compensation? I haven't managed to find one, but that could be because I'm not asking the correct question! Why is this information not included in the Product Characteristics Database...

Why doesnt water evaporate from central heating?

At Last! an accurate description of evaporation. Even with an open vented system the boiler, pump, pipes and radiators form a closed circuit. So the only place where evaporation can occur is at the surface of the F&E tank.

Should I open the lever valve a bit to get more flow to my furthest rads?

I was being very careful and was referring to the room/mean rad temperature difference when I asked: I was drawing attention to the fact that the radiator catalogue the OP referred to shows outputs at ΔT = 50C and ΔT = 60C. I was making sure he used the right one. Calculation of the output for...

Should I open the lever valve a bit to get more flow to my furthest rads?

I should have said that your boiler does expect a flow/return differential of up to 20C. The higher the differential, the lower the flow so the smalller the pressure loss. In which case the bypass may not need adjusting. Correctly balancing for a higher differential should solve your problem...

Should I open the lever valve a bit to get more flow to my furthest rads?

The reason the last rad was unable to get hot could be that the bypass valve in the boiler had not been adjusted for your system. It has a default setting of 250mb but can be set between 170mb and 350mb. you would need it turned up, possibly on 10-20mb (one -two turns). Unfortunately this is...
