Escutcheon needed for 4" boiler flue

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. You may be right about the old one being an internal one Madrab, though it has lasted maybe 20 years. My flue is sealed with mortor, so no gap between pipe and brickwork for your suggestion muggles. Seems like mine is only decorative. The one in your...

Escutcheon needed for 4" boiler flue

Thanks thomp1983. I tried 'collar' and it eventually led me to a 'rosette' which looks like it'll do the job

Escutcheon needed for 4" boiler flue

The escutcheon (collar, gaiter ??) split and fell off my gas boiler flue where it exits through the outside brick wall. I've googled and can't find anything like it -- maybe because I'm using the wrong terminology. It appears to be made of some kind of rubber, maybe silicone, and is a tight...

    Constant pressure water pump questions

Thanks Gasguru. I'll see if we can find a pump maintenance man locally.

    Constant pressure water pump questions

Thanks for responding to such a vague enquiry Gasguru. We have a language problem here, exacerbated by the fact that the house owner (my sister in law) hasn't the faintest idea about anything technical. Having Googled a bit, I suspect the advice she got about a "square tank" (by which I think...

    Constant pressure water pump questions

At my mother-in-law's house in Thailand the mains water feeds into a tank, and a 250-watt Hitachi constant pressure pump supplies the house from the tank at a suitable almost-constant pressure. This pump is working, but it's quite noisy and, even with only a toilet cistern drawing water, it's...

Damper for central heating zone valve?

I've checked, and can find no direction arrow (or any other indication) on the two zone valves in my system. Anyway, my initial question has been answered I think, which is that there's no such thing as a damper for the spring-close type of actuator. I know my options now, so I'll leave it at...

Damper for central heating zone valve?

Thanks to everyone that's contributed. I don't necessary want a MOMO actuator, but that was suggested as a possible improvement over the present spring-return one. The diagrams posted earlier in this thread certainly appear to show that a MOMO valve can directly replace the one I've got, yet...

Damper for central heating zone valve?

Yes, I read that line stem. But for the moment I have to take the word of the "professional" engineer who suggested it can't be done. I suspect he means that BG have standardised on everything so far as their service contracts are concerned, and it doesn't include MOMO actuators. Maybe it's...

Damper for central heating zone valve?

Thanks guys, I haven't had a new boiler since about ten years ago. Also I'm aware of MOMO valves, and mentioned it to the engineer, but he says a different controller is needed for them. Securing the pipe, if that is the cause of the noise, is an option except that it involves taking up...

Damper for central heating zone valve?

Thanks oldbuffer. The BG engineers took the actuator off and turned the valve by hand, reporting that it was turning smoothly. They didn't mention any sloppiness. How do I check it myself -- I've never taken the actuators off, and don't want to mess anything up?

Damper for central heating zone valve?

Thanks D_Hailsham. I've just checked both the zone valves (the noise only happens when one closes, and it's always the same one) and I can't see an arrow on either of them. They both seem to be installed the same way round though. The BG engineers have looked at it at least three times and...

Damper for central heating zone valve?

For a while now my central heating has been making a significant banging/hammering noise whenever one of our heating zone valves shuts off. An engineer has been and says the valve and actuator are fine, so the banging is because some of our pipework beneath the floor is not secured properly...

    PVC trunking for outdoor use?

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I should have said 'conduit'. Incidentally, I believe that certain paints can degrade PVC. I won't need to use if for my limited run, but just out of interest is there a paint specifically designed to protect PVC from UV? I know in the construction industry we...

    PVC trunking for outdoor use?

Can you please advise whether PVC trunking is acceptable for outdoor use? I plan to install a short section through a wooden conservatory window frame to carry the 5v DC power supply for a CCTV camera, but I'm aware that PVC used to degrade in sunlight. Hopefully these days it's UV resistant...

Valve insert required for Hafele basin faucet

I've got a solution: Hafele UK and Hafele Germany both said they couldn't (wouldn't?) help with spares for this faucet, but Germany referred me to Hafele Thailand (which I didn't know existed) and they've responded to my email with part number and price. As it happens in the meantime I've found...

Valve insert required for Hafele basin faucet

Yes, I replaced my UK kitchen ones with a pair from Screwfix without any problem, except the screws holding the tap tops are frozen in place so I can't get them off to see if they fit my Hafele valve. They're soaking in WD40 at the moment with that in mind.

Valve insert required for Hafele basin faucet

Wow, that's revealing! Thanks for the link. There's no mention of Hafele in that list, but if I can get some accurate measurements of the valve I've got, I might be able to get a good match.

Valve insert required for Hafele basin faucet

Thanks. Unfortunately I only brought the valve insert with me from Bangkok. So, are the splines the only real variable these days, with other dimensions reasonably well standardised? I'll see if any of the tap heads I have here in UK fit the splines.

Valve insert required for Hafele basin faucet

At my wife's family's house in Bangkok we have two Hafele cold-only basin faucets, part no. 589.22.000. When one started dripping I went to the place where we bought them to get a new valve insert, but they said they could only 'repair' the tap if we took it to them! Since I was shortly...
