    Removing 2 wall lights

Thanks Taylortwocities. So with those two top red wires removed (and the associated black wires), I can then move the bottom red feed wire across and get rid of the little link wire - right? So then I'm all on one switch. I then have dead cables in the walls/ceiling. Can they just be left? I...

    Removing 2 wall lights

Hi, We're having some building work done, as part of which I want to remove 2 wall lights. At the end of the works, I will be having various electrical sockets etc installed by a registered electrician anyway, but I need to undertake this straight forward task ahead of the works. Having looked...

Removing old system to make way for new

Thanks all very much for the helpful replies! :D EightyTwo - Yes, done my research, I figure for a little extra hassle running a couple of cables up front, I should have a 'better' system long term. Only decision now is whether to include police response or not! And to go Dualcom (GPRS)...

Removing old system to make way for new

Hi all, After a little advise please, we have an old (partially working, ie a couple of door sensors discarded over the years of decorating) non monitored alarm system - A 'Modern Alarms Series 1000'. We're about to have an extension built, after which we'll be having a brand new system...

    Internal coupler for soil pipe?

Iddy and Charnwood, thankyou both very much. I'll go with the drain connector as it fits inside the pipe so in theory no chance of a leak. Cheers :D

    Internal coupler for soil pipe?

Iddy, thanks looks like it might work. Would be happier if there was something specifically for the job but as you say can;t see why it wouldn't work... Charnwood, yeah nearly, I need to cut just above/on the solvent socket, but this means that the section of pipe that is currently...

Hi, Am repositioning a toilet/s and need to remove an existing branch to replace with a double branch. Problem is all joints are solvent and I can't get access lower down the stack to replace what is below. I can cut straight through as shown on the sketch, but I then need a coupler with a...

Two toilet wastes into soil pipe at same level 90 degrees?

Hi all, Need some advice please, I'm refitting our ensuite (which is back to back with our main bathroom and shares a soil pipe). Currently one toilet waste T's into the other and then this pipe enters the soil - not great practice anyway? and we get problems with syphoning too. As part...

How can I just completely turn off my alarm system?

Alarm - lol, true I'm an idiot or true I've got a battery problem? :D Opened panel and battery has date of replacement written as 2007 - is 5 years about right? edit - just checking other posts and it seems five years is the number to look for! Anyway - This is the exact battery that's in...

How can I just completely turn off my alarm system?

Ignore that question - I'm an idiot. Under a power cut the reason the bell may not have sounded previously is because the battery in the panel keeps it powered up. With that now possibly gone, if power is now cut it will probably sound... Cheers

How can I just completely turn off my alarm system?

Thanks all looks like the way to go - at least for the short term. Re the bell ringing, we've had the mains power on/off many times since moving in, for up to an hour or more and the bell has never sounded under those conditions, is it fair to assume that the bell batteries are probably dead...

How can I just completely turn off my alarm system?

Hi, We've got an old Modern Alarms series 1000 system that was in our house when we moved in five years ago. We have rarely used it as it's a bells only system and we could not be sure of the reliability in any case. So anway, yesterday the control panel has started going haywire. Basically...

Hotpoint Washing Machine WM62P tripping RCD - Help!...

OK final update on this - dismantled as per fidom's instructions, no issues in doing it, drum spider cracked as suspected. Costed it all up to around £70 (element, spider, tub gasket), and have decided to put it toward a new machine on the basis that the Hotpoint is about 8 years old and we've...

Hotpoint Washing Machine WM62P tripping RCD - Help!...

If I go down the route of taking the drum apart - and do have to replace the drum spider, how likely is it that I'll need to replace the bearing as well? Am I likely to get the assembly apart undamaged? Need to make a call really - cost of element say £20, spider £30, my time (and knuckles)...
