Or use the fugi tool with the attachment for gliding over tile joints. It works. Mind you, I usually forget to take it with me, so use the mark I finger instead.

Oh. and handyman's right too. Lag the condensate pipe if you can. Any diy store will sell foam pipe-lagging. Get the thickest you can find, and tie or tape it on The condensate pipe is probably 22mm, 3/4 inch diameter. I use cable ties. (zip ties).

greenstar 28i junior combi condensing boiler winter advice

You can safely turn off the water at the mains. The boiler and radiators will stay filled. The only thing that will change is that no water will be going to the hot tap, which is fine, you don't need hot tapwater. So. set the thermostat to 5 degrees, leave the boiler on, and it will look...

greenstar 28i junior combi condensing boiler winter advice

I'm in agreement with Agile on this, set roomstat to 5 degrees, leave heating on. Some boilers and some controllers have built-in frost stats, which automatically kick in, so long as there's electricity and gas on to the boiler. It will use only a little fuel, and will be vastly cheaper than...

running oily finger to set sealant in bathtub

When set, silicone doesn't stick well to silicone. So patching over may lead to it peeling apart later. Wet finger works best, but so long as the silicone's surface is not still sticky, chances are the oil's done no harm. Don't worry about it, just keep an eye on it, and if it looks wrong...

Mr Gassafe, perhaps you could explain yourself.

Capping off an old gas metre

I was here before, but several years ago.... I've spent a lot of years fitting, servicing and fault finding gas installations, domestic, commercial, and industrial, and I've seen a lot of very dangerous things done by well-meaning people who thought they could do it themselves, but didn't...

Capping off an old gas metre

I'm trying to help, but what you say is somewhat contradictory Lloyds register has nothing to do with gas work. Your gas engineer would have to be Gas-Safe registered, not just a Registered Plumber, (that confers no rights to do gas work), and he would have to have a specific qualification...

Capping off an old gas metre

All the pipework up to the meter, and the meter regulator, isolation valve, and meter are the property of and responsibility of the gas network/supplier. You may not remove any cap on the gas meter, nor may you re-site the gas meter. The gas meter may not be moved by anyone other than your...

    Ideal Icos HE15 Thinks it's a trombone

I'd look at the flue assembly. If it's been dislodged, or pulled slightly, the outer (incoming cobustion air) and inner (outgoing combustion gases) can communicate. This would cause an anomalous gas mix at the burner, with an incorrect flame speed. The flame then oscillates, causing the...

Ridiculous gas bill..... is my meter knackered?

Reply to weargas. Yep, you're right in parts, its just counting cubic units, and the pressure is not part of its remit. but it is not telling you how much gas it has passed unless you know the pressure at which it passed.A cubic foot of gas at 40mb would contain twice as much gas as a cubic foot...

    Sealing around a compression joint

plumbers mait is for bedding joins in cast iron soil pipe, for sitting sinks on pedestals etc. There are many sealing products which are designed for threaded and compression joints. Some, such as Boss White, are fine for central heating but not suitable for potable water. If water is the thing...

Ridiculous gas bill..... is my meter knackered?

very interesting, this. I read the previous replies... if it is a u6 meter- most common domestic type, it will be labelled in the area where you read it, I can't see how it can over-read. They are a positive displacement meter, where the displayed numbers are driven by what is effectively a pair...

cost for commissioning a combi boiler

True, We can not see what has been done some time ago, but if Joe Bloggs fitted it a year ago, I would not be faced with something I already knew or suspected to be an installation by an unqualified person. Every job carries the risk that there is an unseen bodge. A recent one was a Brittony...

cost for commissioning a combi boiler

This reply to Taydo, if I work on any part of a gas system I must ensure that I leave the installation safe. If someone else has moved the meter, I still have to find it to do soundness testing and also check gas rate on the appliance. if someone has piped the feed to a 30 kw combi boiler in 10...

    condensation on toilet cisterns

the problem is less the heat of the room than the extremely cold water in the mains at the moment. Even if the ventilation is o.k., the cold water will cause moisture to condense out of air of an acceptably low level of humidity when it contacts the cistern. The only answer so far that is likely...
