    We're making a meal of this. Notch the joist and use a 90 elbow. Pulled bend wont give you the tight radius you need.

    Never used to use anything on compression joints but with the poor quality of fittings these days and the fact i started getting a lot of fittings weeping has meant i now use jet blue on the olives. Since then, all good again.

    Id take the surveyors observations with a pinch of salt re the ductwork as i dont imagine they know one end of a warm air unit from the other. Chances are the flue pipe will be single wall asbestos cement not the ducting with will be sheet metal

    Entirely possible the boards popped...if you put the N from the old stat onto NO on the new one you've railed 230vac down the neutral

    Copper is worth taking if you've got a decent amount. The rest isnt worth the fuel to get there.

    Be fine....F3 can be left in indefinately, its not very strong.

    I'll add on..if it smells chemically, it looks like cleaner has been left in. Fernox F5 looks that colour after a while
