do i have a condensation problem in my flat roof ?

Interesting ! So, a vapour barrier plaster board combined with an immediate layer of celotex against it - with or without any gaps above the celotex should do it then by the sounds of it !? And - you think that there is no current condensation problem and that those readings are "normal" ...

do i have a condensation problem in my flat roof ?

Hi, I just ripped out the ceiling from my flat roof in the "conservatory" (glorified lean too built in the 70). I can see tons of water marks on the joists which all seem to be old (I know it was re-roofed about 9 years ago so assuming they were made before that !). However, I have bought...

    circular patio drainage

wrathkeg: thanks - but I don't want pebbles, I have a large oak tree and I get fed up with all the detritus from that getting caught up. r896neo: Thanks. our lawn is always a bit soggy at the best of times. Although we are on gravel I think there must be clay as well somewhere. Ah well, I guess...

    circular patio drainage

it's like a l-shape I guess. If you looked at it from the garden - garage protruding, then falling back to the main house wall and then protruding out again with teh conservatory. So, I have no choice but fall it outwards I thinks? It's falling onto grass and the patio surface area's about 28m...

    circular patio drainage

About to dig an s shaped edged patio. But how to drain the run off ? I can't find any curved channel drains - is there such a thing? I don't want to use a gravel edge as it would fill with leaves due to near by trees - and I hate weeding ! I think I can link whatever the drain is to wherever...

    dimmer pulsing low voltage lights

Hi Folks, seen a few items on this sort of problem but not sure of the actual answer ! I've got a dimmable transformer - inductive or resistive it tells me. I bought a 250w dimmer from b&q. Works fine on full but at lower levels - particularly around the middle range, it pulses and the dimmer...

    Auto-vent suitable?

I've got a pump pushing water up through the loft and down to the shower. Currently got manaul air vents in loft. However, like to make those auto. Plumbers merchants just sold me these...

    Shower pump not stopping

thanks, not isolated it yet - all behind lots of cupboards in the eaves of the extension. Have now worked out that just turning on and off the shower in cold water mode only turns it off !! At least we have a compromise until I can kick it :-)

    Shower pump not stopping

OK, so I know I'm abusing my cheapo Bristan shower pump... I've attached split the hot water outlet pipe so it now feeds the shower AND the hot water pipes in the sinks. this was due to extremely low pressure in the hot water - no idea why and can't fix it. So, that worked OK for a while now...

PVC Corrugated flashing not same size as old stuff

Hi Folks, I'm reducing the size of my carport and, rather than changing the roof entirely am just reusing what is already there - some corrugated pvc roofing sheets. The PVC flashing has all gone yellow and brittle and I'm replacing that at the end that I'm reducing. Unfortunately, the stuff...

    Bending Polycarbonate?

Thanks for that - that's what I figured. But what else to use? I don't care about insulation properties it's just a car port. What do people use for curved car ports?

    Bending Polycarbonate?

Looking to replace my corrogated carport roof with some nice polycarb twin wall. Never used it before and suddenly realised that there may be potential to "upgrade" my carport so that it had a nice curve on it rather than the grotty old straight wooden beam effect. I've seen that people...

Where to silicone on a uPVC cill?

Hmm, drip groove on the underside of the cill? Mine appears to be flat on top and bottom and how would it be clear of the brickwork if it's resting on mortar; or did you mean that I should cut the cill so the the sides will be clear of the brickwork - me thinks I don't understand :-( And -...

Where to silicone on a uPVC cill?

Hmm, Just putting in a new window or three and realised that I don't understand how to put in the cill. I can't get a complete description of how to seal the cill. I'm going to screw them down through the brick (I've read various views on this versus mortaring them in but I'll go with this...

    Fuse replacement with RCBO?

I am installing an undertile heating system and they recommend an RCD be used. So rather than just putting an inline RCD (or plug version) I was just wondering whether there was such a thing and whether it made sense to do that as a neater job.

    Fuse replacement with RCBO?

Perhaps showing a great deal of amateritus however....Can I simply replace a fuse in my main box with an RCBO? a) Would it fit (at work so don't know what sort of box but it's reasonably new) b) Any regs I need to know? thankyou ! John.

    Dormer insulation

bit confused with all the information I've seen on this - could I get some guidance please? Got a dormer and the cheeks (I believe is the term for the void between the lower part of the outer wall and the sloping original roof?) are not insulated on some parts and not done enough in others...

Tile First or Last - bath

Hi Folks, Putting in a new bath... Is it better to tile below the bath line then put the tiles on or put the bath in then tile down to the bath line? (I'm tanking too for good measure - which I shall do below the bath line regardless of tile placement?) thankyou ! John.

    Tile First or Last?

I do apologise ! I thought it was better to add to the same query which is very relevant than to create a whole new thread. However, a whole new thread it is then !

    Tile First or Last?

I'm putting in a bath. Should I therefore tile behind the bath line first and then put in the bath so that the bath butts up to the tiles? thankyou ! John.
