    Dogs don’t like postmen!

Our postie, canny lad, suffered a dog bite in a village nearby. The delivery was to a private house. Apparently he has a badly damaged finger and is off work just now. Hardly the reason that you go to work for. Just wondering......what happens here? Does he get automatic compensation? Are...

    Losing me kecks!

As per the title.....can anyone recommend a really good set of braces, preferably with vice like clips? (Button types are not applicable). My Oxford bike ones detach all the time. Thanks and have a good evening, everyone. John :)

The new Worcester Heatslave 2 oil boiler.

I’m trying to future proof my house, and consider the oil combi the way to go. 18/25 kW seems to be the size needed. I have had splendid service from the original Heatslave boiler and I’m hoping the replacement will be similar. Firms recommended the Heatslave 2, with a 7 year warranty. All...

Self charging hybrid...getting to know it!

Cruising along in my hybrid - as you do - it changes from electric drive (EV) to petrol engine as it pleases......sometimes the only way I can tell is by the sound of the engine and the EV lamp on the dash. The transition between EV and petrol is absolutely seamless, so I'm wondering how this...

    French river cruising

If anyone has any info they'd like to share about river cruising anywhere, I'd be glad to hear them. I've just done one from Avignon to Lyons.......absolutely hopeless, fed on around £3 per day, stale bread (in France)! and set your own place for breakfast. All for £7000 per couple o_O We all...

    Vehicle road tax

I've just had a yearly road tax renewal for my 1300cc Euro 6 Bipper van. £320!o_O Seems a bit steep.....if I had kept my 1900cc Euro 4 Berlingo, it would have been just £180! We are where we are, I guess. John :)

Oil burner pipes - how long do they really last?

As per the title..... I realise that litigation may play a big part here but replacement every year seems a bit steep. Assuming the oil line has an easy route with no sharp bends or abrading against anything, what do Oftec people do? I’m using the long life green or clear replacements, not very...

    Not another one.......

Yes, a sump replacement for the third vehicle this year: Toyota Land Cruiser Amazon (4.2 litres!) Fiat Punto Citroen Berlingo van, with the DV6 motor. This one looks straight forward enough, but the flexy exhaust is very close, and the cat likewise - so I hope I don't have to shift them. The...

CT1 versus a quality grab adhesive?

Any comments regarding the effectiveness of these products, anyone, and which to prefer? In particular timber to internal walls......nothing too complex! Regards John

A new one on me #3

Citroen Berlingo Multispace, as seen many times before.....this time, the tailgate wouldn't latch. Fine, I'll check it out. Could I also see what was the matter with the rear wiper and washer? OK, no probs. Its a glove box out job to get to the fuses, but they were all fine. The front wipers...

A new one on me #2

Nissan Leaf, 2013 plate, 104k miles.....a dent in every corner  Both front tyres deflating overnight, could I take a look? No problem. Both steel rims cracked where the tyre beads make contact, both around 25mm long and severe corrosion o_O It looks a little thin to weld, and I don't...

    Spring snapped twice!

I have a Peugeot Bipper van, 67 plate, 47000 miles. It's possibly the most uncomfortable vehicle I've ever owned, SWB and a pay load of over 600kg so it does bounce around a bit. Had a general look over it today - it's well maintained but not pampered, as they say. Anyhoo, I found the offside...

    A new one on me!

Citroen Berlingo Multispace, 12 plate and driven to hell. If you want a vehicle to abuse, get one of these. Punter says the side sliding door won't latch, have I any ideas why? Nope. The reason however, was pretty obvious - the lock wasn't even there :p I guess it's still inside the door, so...

    FIAT nightmare.

A simple oil change couldn't be a problem surely? FIAT 500, 59 plate, unknown ownership / history, 80k miles. Out came the sump plug, 12mm allen key needed, a parallel threaded bung.......just fine. In went the sump plug - but it didn't seem to bite on anything.......so much in fact that it went...

    Bitten the hybrid bullet!

Time to say cheerio to my great 4x4 Yeti, with it's 2.0 litre diesel lump. 65 plate, 45 k on the clock, FSH and perfect. When new, in the January, I paid £19k for it with 9 miles on the clock. Carwow valued it at £13 k , which I thought was ridiculous but in the end the hammer fell at £12500 to...

    Central heating pump refurb.

Just for my own interest and experience really but I was wondering if anyone on here had rebuilt one of these pumps? The one I'm interesting is a Bosch by Grundfoss UPS 15-60, its slow to start, shrieking when it spins and has excess spindle end float. Cheers! John :)

Oil boiler control box - please advise?

My ancient Panda 55 boiler, with an Inter 10 burner, uses a Danfoss BHO11.1 control box which I appreciate is long obsolete. I gather that a suitable replacement is an OBC82.10 control box, but someone told me that it too, is obsolete. Would there be any problems replacing the thing with a...

Not the best start to a job!

Decided to fit a new timing belt kit to my Yeti today (2 litre cr diesel)......parts cost £190 inc coolant and a water pump with some sort of thermal clutch - which was a new one on me. The price made me wince a bit. Anyway, the locking wheel nut key decided to cam out and I thought I was...

A new machine fault on me!

The machine is an oddball Powermat two stroke tiller....in for a recoil starter issue and poor starting behaviour. An internet purchase from Poland. The recoil was an easy one.....thanks Amazon! Try as I might I just couldn’t get the thing to carburate properly - it wouldn’t start with choke...

    Tumble dryer choice

I need a new tumble dryer, but external venting isn’t possible so it’s going to be a condensing or heat pump machine. Which is the type to go for - regarding drying time and energy consumption....any comments, anyone? Thanks John :)
