    Plasterboard or MDF

Hello guys, A quick piece of advice if I may. I am planinng on putting up a small partition wall to create a 9ft x 9ft box in one corner of our garage to house a model railway. I don't want to really both with plastering the walls as it is only the garage and cosmetically there is no...

Creating a space inside a garage

John, The garage is of brick and block construction with a concrete floor. The roof is tiled and lined with some kind of liner and then roof beams. My plan was to build a square box stud wall inside the garage of approximately 10ft square with a flat roof on the top. All the stud walls and...

Creating a space inside a garage

Hello all, I have a plan to build a small 'room' inside my existing double garage. This room will be for me and my little lad to create a model railway layout. There are 2 reason's why I wanted to create a room inside the existing garage, 1 - Creates a self contained space which will be...

Vaillant 242 E Combi Expansion Vessel

Thanks for the advice, but I am not sure BG will be very pleased if we tell them to take then new vessel off again.

Vaillant 242 E Combi Expansion Vessel

How true you are !!!! Engineer been and install a nice unsightly bright red expansion vessel on the wall with it's associated pipework. I said to him, what about the old expansion vessel, have you took that out or disconnected it, no he said, it's not leaking so it will be ok. Why the f**k...

Vaillant 242 E Combi Expansion Vessel

I mentioned them to BG engineer and he said they would do them after fitting the EV if the pressure still drops.

Vaillant 242 E Combi Expansion Vessel

The isolation valves are not closing 100%, we tried this on a previous occassion when trying to source the problem. Pressurised the boiler, closed the isolation valves, opened bleed valve on radiator and boiler pressure dropped straight away.

Vaillant 242 E Combi Expansion Vessel

All that you have said has been done Tony. The central heating is obviously not working at the moment as it is summer and the pressure is still dropping. I have checked the PRV valve by putting a finger from a rubber glove over it and it is dry. BG are coming out this afternoon to put the EV on.

Vaillant 242 E Combi Expansion Vessel

I can only go by what the BG engineer tells at this stage, all I know is that he said water is coming out of the vessel when it should be air. The PRV valve is not leaking at all.

Vaillant 242 E Combi Expansion Vessel

Cheers Tony, I agree as I run my own business, BG would look at the labour cost of 2 men to lift the boiler off the wall to replace the internal pressure vessel when they could send 1 man to install and external one. Unfortunately, there is nowhere to hide the thing, so I will have to build a...

Vaillant 242 E Combi Expansion Vessel

To be honest, I will give credit to the BG engineer, he did not try and sell us a new boiler. He said simply that they could not get the internal pressure vessel anymore and that we would need an external one mounted on the wall. We didn't like the idea, and he said it was either an external...

Vaillant 242 E Combi Expansion Vessel

I am not sure what the BG engineers checked, all I know is that he pulled off a pipe off something and hot water came out, which he said should not happen and that the vessel was broken. The reason for the call to BG was that we were losing boiler pressure.

Vaillant 242 E Combi Expansion Vessel

Hello guys, Our Vaillant 242 E Combi boiler has been looked at by British Gas yesterday and we have been told that it needs a new expansion vessel, which is fine. However, BG say that the expansion vessel that goes inside the boiler is not available anymore, so they want to install and...

    Central Heating Leak

I know I might not know much about boilers, but I know a little about plumbing  , yes, did close the right one. The 2 big thick pipes on the outsides of the row of pipes. They go from left to right, 1 - CH, 2 - DHW, 3 - Gas, 4 - Cold Water In, 5 - CH, I isolated 1 and 5. 8)

    Central Heating Leak

Softus, The boiler, under normal circumstances takes about 24 hours to loose .5 bar of pressure, with the test I just did, it dropped by 1 bar straight away, within minutes, so the isolation valves are not doing their job properly are they ?

    Central Heating Leak

Yep, water just kept coming..... This is the procedure I did. Opened isolating valves Pressurised system to 2 bar Closed isolating valves Bled radiator upstairs until water just trickled Went back downstairs, boiler pressure dropped by about 1 bar Surely, if the valves were...

    Central Heating Leak

Softus, The isolation valves are obviously "passing by". I pressurised the system to 2bar, closed the isolation valves and let water out of a radiator upstairs. Came back downstairs and the boiler pressure has dropped, so one or both of the valves are not sealing properly. :?

Good thinking softus, will give that a try too.

    Central Heating Leak

Cheers Chris, the main one in the combustion chamber has some evidence that there has been or is leakage, there is some signs or green corrosion on it.

    Central Heating Leak

Can I just ask a quick question in case I am not doing this right. The isolation valves have a screwdriver slot in them, which when opened is in the direction of the pipework, I am presuming that I simply turn them to the horizontal so that the slot is across the pipe and not in the direction of...
