I've just been to B&q to buy a replacement light switch.
Seems they have 1-way and 2-way types. Both types seem to operate in same way mechnaically.
I'm not sure what type I need without completely removing my old one first.

What's the difference?

A two-way switch is like you have at the top and bottom of your stairs. Same light can be tuned on and off by two switches.

A one way switch is like you use in all your other rooms - one switch, one lamp.

However, if you are buying for stock, you may as well have 2-ways, as you can use them as if they were a 1-way switch if you want. Saves having to keep two kinds of spare.
