My British colleague has GU halogens in the ceiling of his house in Nigeria, which keep blowing with the voltage fluctuations. He also has a 12v invertor for the times when there's no power (most of the time).

He would like to replace the old halogen bulbs with LEDs in the hope that they won't blow so easily. He says he has both types of bulb - 240v with the fat brass bayonet terminals and others marked 220v with the spindly push fit terminals - is this possible? I thought push-fit was always 12volt?

Can somebody explain all this? What kind of bulbs would you recommend?
