I am about to replace a 8.0kW shower with a 9.5 kW one. The shower is about 15m from the consumer unit. I have 6.0 mm cable. What is the maximum current that 6.0 mm can take ?

Thanks in advance.

There is not a single max but 6 according to where cable is run. If I take ref method 100 i.e. less than 100mm of insulation and clipped in prescribed manor against cool surface then 34 amp but this can reduce to 23.5 amp if not run in ideal conditions. Using the white Low smoke zero halogen cable this may be higher as rated 90 instead of 70 deg C and with the aluminum covered cable designed to be used in stud walls without RCD protection it can rise to 58 amp but I am sure your not using this type of cable. So 7.8kW is normal max on 6mm in order to get the 41 amp required you need 10mm cable.

Even if it is, you can't run it at 90° if the accessories it's terminated in, or other cables it runs with are only rated at 70°....

6mm2 cable can provide upto 47amps depending on installation. More info needed from OP as to the actual route this cable takes(ie what materials does it pass through?). Also what type of breaker does it have, is it a rewireable fuse or an mcb?
