I would like to construct a flat but non-flexible board/table top about 2m x 2.3m which will make constructing interlined curtains much easier and more comfortable. (At the moment I have to spread them out and work on them on the floor, which I find uncomfortable and gives me backache).

If I can make such a surface, it could sit on top of an existing table I have which is about 1.5m x 1m.

I want to spend as little as possible. Your suggestions as to the best materials to use would be welcome. I'm thinking cheap laminate flooring mounted on a 2 x 2 frame with a leg at each corner, but this seems clunky.

I only need it for the next few months.

Thanks in advance.

You'd need to support beyond the existing table which could provide a central support. What about some cheapish, home-made trestles (3 x 2 or 2 x 2 softwood and sheet materials offcuts, nailed together - see below) and two sheets of 18mm chipboard or MDF joined on the underside with 2 x 1in PAR softwood cleats outboard of the table top. That would give to 2.4 x 2.4 metres.

The simplest, cheapest solution came to me in the middle of the night (as these things often do).

I'm a decorator and I already have a large pasting table. I've bought two of the cheap (£10) ones and with all three tables side by side, they create a large enough surface to spread the fabric out on and construct the curtains.

Life is good. :D

I slide two of my work benches together to make a big one.
Yes life is good.
