A Difficult Job For a Plumber?

I’m in the middle of having a bathroom fitted. Old (very very old) bathroom has been taken out. Much of the piping is lead (plumbers knew that was the case).

No-one has turned up at all this week. The more experienced plumber of the two involved in the job is supposed to be sorting out the lead pipes so that the suite can be plumbed in. Less experienced will do the more straightforward stuff. Neither of them turn up when they say they will.

So, I have an empty bathroom and a house full of bathroom suite with nowhere to go. It’s lucky I’m not living there at the moment.

I’m fast coming to the conclusion that, for whatever reason, they don’t want to do the job and I’m going to have to find someone else

What I’m wondering is, is the lead pipe issue something that is really difficult to deal with? They told me it is a bit of a difficult and intricate job, but didn’t sound like it was impossible. Am I going to find it hard to find another plumber to do the job because it's difficult? Will I never be able to move into my house because no-one can fit me a bathroom?

Any advice gratefully received. I’m off for a glass of wine and a good cry.

Rip out all the lead and take it to scrappy it will pay for new plumbing, your retirement , a holiday of a lifetime, and a timeshare in the algarve

Normally when we do bathrooms,the customer is advised that all old lead should be pulled out especially on full refurb why would you want to hang onto old lead pipe

They seem to have you on string with you need specialist to work on the lead ,thats why they employed a plumber!!have a meeting with them and lay it down that its taking too long etc discuss deadlines or you will find an alternative plumbing company.stand up and be counted

ideal why should a bonus be offered just to get someone to do the job they have been contracted to do already?

dealing with lead is really easy....getting into all the places where it travels might be more complicated.
it can be replaced from the mains , where it comes into ur house or from where it comes into the bathroom (and do the rest at another time)...not difficult what so ever.

its just one fitting to adapt lead to copper

Thanks Happyp. I don't want to hang on to any old pipework, I just want them to do whatever needs to be done to fit the flipping bathroom.

Contact them, give them a deadline to restart. Like tomorrow. If they don't turn up, sack them and get another few quotes. Check references and hire the best, not necessarily the most expensive or the cheapest.

Don't pay them (those you sacked) a penny, even if they have already done some work.

If they have materials on site, let them collect. If they have a key to the property, tell them to keep it and change the lock(s).

Knuckles this public forum,hence you will get all sorts here some pretending to be tradesman,other "google plumbers"

These are the people who will spend their evening researching online for answers and actully pillfering what others have wrote and trying to pass it off as their own,fortunately people have common sense and mpost of the time they can work out who the actual proper tradesman are and thank god for that

Lead is not problem and blagging people you need specialist yes he is called a plumber .......................... the word comes from latin someone who works with lead!!!!!

Happy, my house is actually in South Wales. I'm having it done up and then I'm moving there. When I have a bathroom. In about thirty years.
