The report quotes a neighbour as saying it sounded like a bomb - so there you are.

Gas vans outside, so it seems that this is the prime suspect.
It could all be an innocent mistake, an accident.

One report quotes a senior Fire Officer as saying " There was an explosion and then the gas ignited " It does not preclude it being an explosion of gas but it could be taken to mean they suspect some other explosive material may have caused the explosion.

The back of the house ( before demolition ) had what looked like a boiler flue half way up the wall of a first floor room.

How would the neighbour know the difference between a bomb sound and a gas explosion sound?
