A nail - holding up the rafters?

If that rafter is nailed top and bottom it would take a monumental effort for it to slide downwards. Multiply that by a few rafters then bind them with some roofing battens above and sheet material below.

I was thinking more about the nail bending and causing the rafter to drop. Even if bolted to the ceiling joist once the joist is cut it could flip up and the rafter could drop.
