Go with the hard wax oil in the first link. The Sadolin stain in the second link is not suitable to use on previously waxed surfaces, it is designed for untreated timber. A good tip is, if it's been waxed before use only wax again.

Thank you to both of you for your replies.

I must apologies, I didn't make myself very clear on my first post.

We are having some new units made for our utility which will be untreated.

ic1927, would you still go with the wax oil as 'TheDec'?

Wax Oil seems to be winning with TheDec giving a strong recommendation.

I hadn't thought about going over our existing kitchen units with the hard wax oil. Do you think it would take over BriWax and give a better waterproof coating?

Has anyone any experience using 'Fiddes Protex'? Will it take over BriWax and offer a waterproof protection?

Both Fiddes and Briwax are wax oils and are therefore compatable and would suit both your intended applications, Protex is wax oil sealant of which you could apply over the wax oils yet you could not re wax over it.
