Hi all

Sorry to ask this question again.....but just want to find out what the regulations are for getting power to the garden

What are the rules for burying cable etc I know it has to be armored cable but not sure wot depth it needs to go

We were planning on spurring off a normal kitchen socket that is protected by a RCD at the consumer unit .....is it OK to do this at all? From there we were going outside then a channel dug in old conrete patio then into the garden area which we are currently ready to lay new turf hence this query

We are only planning to put a double socket for lawnmower at the top end of garden....around 10-15m away from house obviously weather protected

Would the above be OK???

house has been rewired in Aug 06 so cabling is all new

Your external spur will require limiting to 13a via a fused spur.

Cable depth should be 600mm under.

Cable on surface should be fixed to permanent structures, wooden fencing panels don't count, a brick wall does.

SWA cable is best suited, but hi-tuf could be used if you provide protection for the cable such as conduit (earthed), or suitable barrier pipe.

If you can, run the cable under flag stones / the path, which will prevent the potential issue of a spade / fork / future excavation damaging the cable.

External works are notifiable to LABC under Part P
