HI, We've moved into a new house and want to use some of the loft space as storage.
However the space between some of the batterns are a little smaller than some of the boxes so I was wondering if I could remove one?
Possibly increasing the support either side?
judging by the colour difference it looks as though they are not structural roof members. They are possibly framing supporting the plasterboard dwarf walls. If you remove them you'll almost certainly damage the plasterboard which will then entail repair and redecoration
Changing the storage box size will probably be both easier and cheaper.
Thanks that's what I thought, they don't look like they support anything but thought Id better check.
I was planning on putting some doors on so the plasterboard will need to be cut out anyway.
