Hi,

I need to fit some roof vents and a sunpipe into my roof. The sarking board looks exactly like plasterboard and has a similar consistency. As the property was build in the late 60s I am a bi concerned that it is asbestos. Any thoughts on how to deal with this aoppreciated!

If you suspect the board may contain asbestos then you should get it tested, or get someone to carry out the works based on the assumption that it does contain asbestos, so they can factor in to how to deal with it.

Do not carry out the works yourself without taking the appropriate precautions after testing.

Do not ask someone else to carry out the works without informing them that it may contain asbestos.

There are plenty of asbestos removal specialists around now who can deal with or advise.

Its not asbestos! These sheets were widely used in Scotland in the 60's and 70's They have a plaster/silica core with reflective surface on one side and were used as an insulated sarking board.
