Do the dictatorial Australian authorities consider it acceptable to cook your own dinner each day, or are you supposed to get a licensed chef in to do it?

It's a cultural thing. I have relatives in Turkey, their culture is to get a man in. They would never dream of DIY. Yet they also see nothing wrong with two plugs one either end of lead so they can run the shop off a generator during the regular power failures.

One of the problems here is people can't accept we do things different due to many things including climate. Again in Turkey for years and years most lights have been discharge types as they want to keep places cool. But in the UK it's not so hot so we kept with tungsten lamps until forced to change by government as we want that extra heat at night.

A friend who before retiring was a multi-skilled factory technician emigrated to Australia in 2001. They sold up and came back to the UK in 2006 in part due to this rigid control. Helping an elderly neighbour out in a plumbing emergency had landed him in court for his "illegal" work. The judge could not dismiss the case but handed down the mininum fine. But it left him with a "criminal" record.
