B&D Firestorm 18v cordless drill - stuck in reverse/ACW

Was doing a rare bit of DIY at the weekend and had used the drill to get some screws out.
On trying switching it back to clockwise for drilling, the drill is now stuck in reverse/anticlockwise.

Any advice on this at all please?

I haven't opened the casing up yet (held together by screws - is it worth my time looking?)

The reversing switch is electrical rather than mechanical, and it has failed internally.
If you want to go any further, see if a replacement switch is available first!
