How did you try to turn it on?

Switch on the boiler? Room thermostat? Programmer?

Have you got a wireless programmer/thermostat? If so, these use batteries which may have gone flat.

Its always best to turn on heating every month for a few minutes as that can prevent parts seizing up.

Its NOT necessary to bleed any radiators.

tried to turn it on, just by moving the dial to hot water and central heating. we did decorate the dining room since last time we had the heating on and we found an old decrepit thermostat on the wall( we had never used it or thought it was connected to the boiler) and we removed it.could that be the problem?cheers the good doctor

If as a doctor, you removed someone's foot and then discovered he could not walk, perhaps you might conclude they might just possibly be connected?
