Hi i have a baxi solo 2 50pf just a little query about it, first thing in the morning when i start it up it sparks about 13 time before the pilot lights and if i go outside when this is happening i can smell gas coming from the flue i presume this is because the gas valve is open and its trying to light thats why im getting the smell of gas but then the rest of the day the pilot lights straight away, this only seem to happen first thing in the morning on cold start up. The boiler works fine tho, any ideas whyb this happends?

Had one of these boilers for 13 years, and I'm getting close to changing it, as I'm fed up with the ignition problems. Sometimes mine can take a couple of minutes to come on. It sparks for some time, then the pilot lights, but the flame isn't brilliant and doesn't reach the burner. It looks like it is being blown around by the fan.

Have had literally a dozen engineers come and try and sort this out, but all have failed. Like yours, it's only a problem when it's cold, if it's been on, goes off and then comes back on, it's one spark, flame and ignition.

The gas you can smell is because the valve is emitting gas, but there is no ignition. I'm no expert, but I wouldn't think that this is a problem as it's obviously going through te flu OK and not coming into the room.

You need to fit the pilot kit which includes a differant type off injector which always sorts this problem out for me

nope, the most likely fault is the gasket which fits between the flue and then fan outlet. about a tenner. if the boiler has not been recently serviced you could tie it all up iin one visit as you need a gas seafe eng to carry out the work anyway.

most bg guys carry one.

I got a new fan fitted about 7 months, so i presume a new gasket was fitted or maybe it was not fitted right, and i dont know did this happen before fan was changed cause when i moved into the house 7 months ago the boiler was broken down

Changing the fan gasket helped mine for a bit, but the problem returned. I think that over the years, I have had nearly every component replaced, and the problem still persists on and off. My boiler had been working well for a few months until the fan jammed. An engineer sprayed it with a wd40 type of liquid, and the ignition problem then came back. It's like there is too much air around.

Resigned to having a rogue boiler and changing it is going to be my only option at the end of the day, and next time I don't want one with a pilot, or if there is one, it's on all of the time. Is that possible?

Lubricating the fan should only be seen as a temporary solution !

It obviously needs a competent engineer to properly check and fix.

I'm beginning to think that they don't exist around here. I contacted Heateam, as I believe they specialise in Baxi boilers, but they want £200 just to step over the doorstep

Thats a fixed price repair including any parts.

An independent is unlikely to need to charge anything like that.

But you hide your location so I cannot suggest anyone from this forum who might be able to help you.

Well in that case you are in the service area of Kevinthegas at Southampton. He also has a very reasonable pricing structure.

Search for him on this forum and I suggest you ask him to sort it out for you.

Cheers for that
