Hi.

I have just had a beech worktop fitted and I have given it a few coats of danish oil.

I am not happy with the finished colour and would like it to be darker.

Someone told me that I can add a stain/dye to the oil, which will then make it darker.

What is the best thing for me to use.

Cheers.

You can add wood dye [spirit based] to oil or buy it with dye already added, should have been dyed from first coat so oil will reduce the depth of colour achieved.Try on an off cut , you may need a much darker dye to achieve desired colour now it has oil on it.

Thanks foxhole.

As nobody had replied all day I took a gamble and bought some dark oak wood dye from wicks.

Used a paint brush to apply it and then wiped off the surplus.

It looks awesome now.

It's similar to an African Walnut finish.

Thanks.
