My insurance policy covers me for breakdown callouts up to a certain cost and states that it will replace my boiler if it packs up - its about 16 years old and very costly to run - I am having lots of problems with it and have used up all the call out allowances, and feel reluctant to spend anymore on it.............I have asked the company if they can replace it but they say no, unless it packs up completely.

Do boilers ever completely pack up?

no they don't, i presume there is a clause in your insurance that says they will not replace the boiler if the part it requires is obsolete aswell.....it will never happen, but who offers that on a contract out of interest.

Depends what "packs up" means. Bet they don't use the phrase in the contract!
