Hi

I want to put our combi-boiler up high on the wall in our bathroom. The nearest
wet object is the wash basin, about 1m away from where I want to put the
electrical connection point.

I want to use a switched FCU, but as these aren't allowed in the bathroom
I will put the FCU outside the bathroom, on the other side of the wall that the
boiler is mounted on. Then from the FCU (on my ring main) I will run a cable
through the wall to a connection point (like you do for a cooker) on the other
side just under the boiler and connect the boiler to that.

Is this OK?

What other restrictions are there (e.g. is 1 metre far enough away from the basin? )

Finally, is there such a thing as a boiler connection point or shall
I just buy another cooker connection point and use that? Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

They are allowed in Zone 3 or outside the Zones.

Why have any form of connection unit in the bathroom? Why not just take the cable through the wall to the FCU?

Biggest ones I can think of are are the boiler controls suitably IP rated for being in a bathroom? Is the whole boiler suitably IP rated? Are the manufacturers happy with it being in a bathroom?

I had to enclose our Boiler, as the external case of boiler is conductive and it's also in the shower/utillity room, so I put the FCU in the same enclosure.

Had this one recently. BG had an issue with customer's boiler which was over bath. Said it should be enclosed in Z1 & 2. Switch is indeed OK in Z3 or outside the zones (airing cupboard or enclosure in which boiler is sited).

Instead of using cooker outlet, use a flex outlet plate, fed via 1.00mm2 T & E from output terms of FCU.

As Ban says, it is wise to double check your location with the mfrs.
