Last year I had some flaky red bricks professionally repaired. The contractor used some sort of red filler and so far it has been very successful.

I now need a similar treatment on another part of the house. However, due to the small number of bricks involved, and the fact that they are not very visible, it would be disproportionately expensive to have the contractor back.

The area affected is not load bearing and I would like to have a go at it myself. Can anyone recommend a suitable coloured filler and, if so, where I can get it? I understand that a lime based filler is recommended.

Interested to know too, as have the same issue which i'd like to correct :)

Are you sure it wasn't just dyed mortar?

The best fix is to dig out about an inch of the flaky brick and replace with a brick slip. (Cut down brick)

Better still is to replace the whole brick though.
