Brick up a serving hatch - forgot wall ties

hi

Stupid error on my behalf. It's a .7m x.7m hole.

Can I retrofit by grinding out some mortar, slipping in some flat metal ties and remortaring?

It will be hard walked and skimmed so prettiness is not an issue here.

Thanks

If you wedge the top joint properly, it won't be going anywhere

Sorry that message got misspelt!

I was asking how I would do that? I was planning to just fill the gap with expanding foam (fire resisting).

Would grinding some of the mortar out and seating in metal plates to tie across to the wall work?

Ram some mortar in it really tight and full. Or likewise with slate.

Not foam or anything that can compress or shrink. If the gap is full the bricks wont move
