One of the springs or cables on my up and over garage door has snapped off due to having been heavily corroded.

Which tradesman would be most suitable for this type of work and as an estimate how much would it cost to have it replaced?

Because its a dangerous and sppecialised job and the correct spares are required, a garage door firm should be used. I doubt if anyone else would be interested so they have you over a barrel, If you have change from £200 you will be lucky.

you might get away with less than £200 I had a temp repair done to mine prior to renewing it a couple of years back, about £70 as I recall. Whatever you do don't have a go yourself, it is like a giant rat trap.
One slip and you will look like a Tom and Jerry cartoon!
As said a garage door specialist and avoid the national ones, they will either sting you or flog you a new door!:(

How diy minded are you?
There are plenty of videos on youtube and the kits are available on ebay (including tools and spring safety stops).
I did my own a couple of moths ago, I am a trades person but I had never repaired springs before. It took me a couple of hours and quite a bit of swearing but its good as new now.
Its tricky and fiddly but doable.
