Hi all, need to take a load bearing wall out, so can anyone tell me once the calculations have gone in when can we start the removal of the wall, and also I understand the Building Control Fee is based on the price of the job, but the work is being carried out by experienced family members so there is no charge, so where do we stand on that? Thanks for your time!

You can plough ahead provided you are confident whoever has done your calcs has done them right. Obviously you need to get BC in for the inspection.

The fee is based on a cost of works as if you were employing a tradesman to do it. the fact that it is being done labour free is irrelevant.

All jobs have a value irrespective of whether the cat does it.

As per Freddy. Once the S.E. has given you the nod then crack on. B.C. are obedient to his say so as long as he is qualified and correct.
