Cable detector / Laser Level

I'm looking for a reasonable cable detector, the other halfs old man has an old B&D LZR2 which combines laser level and detectors into one. I've seen him use it and it seems to do what it says on the tin, we traced one of the ring mains in my house up a wall at one end of a room and back down at the other which knowing the layout makes sense. That particular model isn't available anymore, the replacement seems to be the BDL230S but that doesn't get great reviews. Any comment or recommendations for a similar alternative around the same price of ~£50?
