I have two supporting walls either side of my staircase. In one wall is a door too storage underneath.

The other side sounds hollow in a door shape, solid everywhere else.

Can I just swap the door over, sealing up one hole and cutting out a new one?

theres a fair chance the space would have been shared with a wall down the middle and a door each half
do you have a picture and how old is the house ??

I dont have a picture on me, I do have a copy of a plan of the ground floor. The house is 1890s or older.

If it sounds hollow there may have previously been a door there, have you looked at the other side for evidence?

It's plasterboarded on the inside, so it's not obvious. Any other evidence? I don't really want to start punching holes in the wall

If it plasterboard then you shouldn't have a problem moving the door, don't' forgot to make the new doorway before you block the old, check there are no electrics in the way.
