when i was young and skint i used emulsion as under coat never had a problem

Should be ok-
I had a client who used oil based eggshell directly on to new wood and with more (than normal) coats it was fine.
The only time that it will be an issue is if you try to sand it in the future with an electric sander- the paint will overheat- unlike waterbased primer.
