Hi, I have a big shelf unit which was previously stained a long time ago and we wanted to paint it to match the colour of the room but we forgot to prime it so we painted over the top with a good basecoat and then 2-3 coats of a silk emulsion.
Now it still chips, rubs easily and you can see the old wood underneath as the paint is delicate so I want go varnish it as re-painting properly is way out my budget for money and time.
I have seen some great products like, Polyvine decorators varnish and ronseal etc but there quite expensive so I am looking into buying:
Wilko Matt Quick Dry Ultra Tough Varnish Clear,
but it does not say if you can apply it over emulsion etc just says for wood but do you think it would work as its also a water based flat matt varnish like the others?
Thanks

There's a reason why there's a difference in price between the polyvine and the wilco. Consider the cost of the wilco failing and you soon realise that using good quality products are often cheaper. Its only about £10-12 i think for the polyvine, a little goes a long way.
