How do you edge a carpet to sanded floor boards? The wall between our dining room and lounge has been knocked through, and I want to carpet only the lounge side: too many drafts for my liking. The width of the opening between the two rooms is 2.1 m. I was thinking of nailing down chamfered oak architrave, 50 mm wide by 20 mm deep. Would a carpet fitter be able to butt the carpet against the 20 mm edge of the architrave using grippers? The underlay is 11 mm thick and the carpet will be of reasonable quality.

Yes, you can buy the standard metal ones in gold or silver, you can buy solid wood, plastic wood effect, solid brass, coloured plates, there are indeed a plethora of options!

For non standard profiles, we use

http://www.stairrods.co.uk/pages/thresholds.html

and

http://www.treadplates.co/

for most of our customers.

Thanks. After your reply, starting searching for thresholds instead of edging. Found wooden threshold at Cotswold Thresholds, http://www.cotswold-thresholds.co.uk/ . Looks better than architrave.
